(WRAL)   If you tow a car away from an accident site, you might want to make sure there are no dead bodies in the driver's seat. Isn't that right officer?   (wral.com ) divider line

Mistakes happen, but charging the family to get her out of impound kind of crossed the line.

Tow trucks don't work for free, Buddy.

Lazy cop is lazy.

I'm a little surprised the tow yard didn't find her when the car was brought in.  They usually do a quick inventory to CYA when the car is picked up.

FWIW, I'm guessing the driver was thrown under the dash by the accident.

There was one(well more than one) where the car windows were frosted up and car gets towed and 3 days later, there is grandma barely alive or dead. It all depends on if its near end of shift if she dead.

Car upside down in watery ditch and lights on and people keep stopping and calling out for signs of life and the 6th person heard something. Now why the police were not called or didn't show up, well that was up to the courts.

Then there is meter maids int he winter who keep ticketing the same vehicle over and over again, just adding to the pile of tickets.

The other issue is where the towing company doesn't need a cop present to be able to tow the vehicle. So you end up with $$$$$$$$$$ in his eyes and a mess inside.

I would poke the dead body with a stick.

This happened in Cleveland a while back. Towed a car from the bridge, at the scene of another accident. Poor dude was dead in the drivers seat. No one checked. I forget how long it took to find the body. If I remember correctly it was a the impound lot, and it was a family member.

Nightmare fodder.

"Well the good news is, we've found your grandmother...."

Accordig to my mother-in-law, when my wife was 3 years old, she, her dad and her grandmother were involved in a pretty horrific car wreck in Mexico.  Killed her dad and her grandmother instantly, but my wife was asleep in the back seat and then apparently knocked onto the floorboard of the car (1959 Chevy Impala, huge back seat area) and then the impact folded the front seat over the back....wasn't until my mother-in-law started asking about her daughter at the hospital a couple hours later that they realized she was still in the wreckage....Found her wedged into the back seat/floor area with some bumps and bruises, but otherwise ok. (This happened in the late 60's when things like investigations and accident reports took a backseat to "get the mess cleaned up and get the road open ASAP")

welcome to north cakalacki. why would the j*rkoff cop check the car? he'd have gotten his shoes dirty. there wasn't anyone to arrest, harass, fine, etc. I hope they find this worthless piece of craps' (who's salary I am paying) mother bloated in an impound lot. but life isn't like that. he'll be back not doing his job in a week. if there is a god some meth-head will put a bullet in his worthless skull

to me cops are like lawyers, people I talk to insist that there are good and decent ones. for the sake of argument I would have to agree. I've never seen bigfoot, but some seemingly rational people say he's out there. cops come in 2 types, the high school bully who now has a gun. and the complete loser who tried other jobs, but when he realized he added nothing productive/couldn't hack it in the real world, decided to go to the "academy" I will drive around all day, I will when I must leave the car make sure my hand is resting on my peni*, I mean the butt of my weapon. then you will do everything I tell you to do, when I tell you to do it. by the way if I fail to do my job, like say leaving someone to die in a car, or maybe blasting through an intersection and tee-boning you. or shooting up the wrong pick-up truck. too bad for you. I am the law son. they can all go to h.e.double hockey sticks! p.s. sorry bigfoot

Is she a 'short person'?  How does one not find a body in a sunfire?  This isn't exactly a ford excursion.
