I'd give you kudos, subby, but anyone can make that easy judgment call based on 1 of 162 games.

2013-04-03 02:25:47 PM
Seriously? A link to a f*cking box score?

This headline is redolent of crybaby asshole Red Sox/Yankee fan stench.

Is this what we have to look forward to all season?

2013-04-03 02:31:30 PM
That headline could have easily been submitted by a Toronto fan.

2013-04-03 03:18:15 PM
I predict we'll have a repeat of last year's World Series! Just like I've predicted each of the past 23 seasons! I'm an expert!

2013-04-03 03:23:32 PM
It's gonna be the Astros vs the Marlins in the World Series.

(yeah, I know, but if I some how manage those odds, my $1 bet is REALLY gonna pay off)

2013-04-03 03:24:06 PM
My god, you mean Toronto won't go 162-0? ALERT THE PRESS!

You might find this hard to believe, but one game doesn't mean dick

Would've gone for the "YOU DON'T SAY" meme; but you cover the bases better. :)

At which point, you'll have a good 60-70 losses.

So what makes this one so special?

2013-04-03 03:43:14 PM
The team that wins the REGULAR season doesn't always win the post-season.

Actually, it means 1/162nd of a dick.

2013-04-03 03:48:26 PM
Dickey still looked good, just a lot of poor at bats. Really a tip of the hat is owed to Cleveland pitching and asdrubal for his homer and turning two on Lind.

Subby sucks

2013-04-03 03:49:53 PM
No, it really is a disaster. All jokes about 1-game aside, you have: #1 catcher can't catch (4 passed balls), Bautista still throwing temper tantrums with every strike out, Rasmus the strike out machine, aging knuckler who has lost it, no power from the middle of the line up. They looked lost out there. All that money, god, it's the Marlins all over again.

That's a clown question, bro.

Decillion: #1 catcher can't catch (4 passed balls)

As I recall, no team has ever won a World Series with their primary catcher unable to catch one of their starters.

And it certainly didn't happen twice in four years.

Colby sucks but I don't think I got even a hint of anything else you listed. Did JP pass on a ball that resulted in anything? I only saw two and no one was on base

2013-04-03 03:55:31 PM
Um, wasn't a Cleveland a team that everyone thought upgraded themselves in the offseason as well? Sure, not to the extent of the Blue Jays, but it's not like the Jays just lost their opener to the Astros or Marlins.

Not directly, but yes...he caused 1 run at least.
And he had at least 4 PB.

Well, the Blue Jays might as well throw the bats onto a bonfire and pack up all the equipment until next spring, they'll never bounce back from that 0-1 start.

2013-04-03 04:05:40 PM
For what it's worth, it looks like the team that wins the Cactus League pennant doesn't start the regular season great, either.

A team hasn't won the World Series after starting 0-1 in over ONE HUNDRED days.

Well the team the has 59 losses will be a game ahead of you, remember that first loss at the beginning of the season?  If you want to win it all, every game will count. Of course they don't expect to win every game but the team with the least losses usually wins.

I still think Cleveland sucks, but it doesn't matter anyway. Even the Astros and Marlins will win at the very least 50 games, and more likely somewhere between 60-70 games. So even if they lost their opener to the Astros (as the Rangers did), it means pretty much nothing.

2013-04-03 04:18:14 PM
You're right, subby.  Season's over.  The Yankees are automatically champs.  GAME OVER, MAN!!

I bet you voted Palin.

Yah, I went there.  All the way there.

Asdrubal, is that based off of Hasdrubal/Azrubaal or just a similarity?

2013-04-03 04:21:01 PM
And they only have 161 chances to make up the game they're down in the standings. Might as well call it a season.

It's a team, and fanbase deflating loss. The most hyped game in 20 years. It's not midseason against the Sox where you have some success in previous games to fall back on mentally. Now they have to come out to a half empty stadium with deep seeded doubts about what all this off-season activity really meant. Right now all they can think of is waste, and lost oppourtunity. How can you build a successful season with that as the foundation?

2013-04-03 04:24:45 PM

Cagey B: So even if they lost their opener to the Astros (as the Rangers did), it means pretty much nothing.

Oh certainly, but I don't think the Indians will be that terrible this year. Not a playoff team most likely, but, I think the +2 win projection for this season (I saw that somewhere) from last is a bit conservative.

Of course, I'm basing this off the most scientific and analytic method possible, my gut.

2013-04-03 04:25:57 PM

Decillion: How can you build a successful season with that as the foundation?

Oh, totally. The only thing worse I can imagine is if you were to get swept in the opening series, against a division rival, with each loss by a single run.

I'd imagine if THAT ever happened, the team would simply forfeit the season.

2013-04-03 04:26:14 PM
So we can now submit box scores for every Blue Jays loss, in addition the usual suspects of the Yankees and Red Sox?

I am not saying it was special, I am just saying that every win counts at the beginning of the season, middle ,and end, unless your out of it by June then the losses don't matter because you have already lost too many.

You said "remember that first loss at the beginning of the season."

How does that not imply that that loss was something different?
At the end of the year, what makes an opening day loss different from a loss on June 15?

At first I was confused "How are two NL teams making the World series."  Obviously I'm still not use to considering the Astros an AL team.

It took me like 5 years to not keep thinking of the Brewers as an AL team.

The team that wins the most games wins the World Series, so every win counts. I don't know what else to say. We are just not going to see eye to eye here but this is Fark and that's alright.

Any given one means as much as any other given one. They add up. It sounds Maddenesque, but the beginning of the season sets up the end of the season. When you get into September, you're going to be counting who's how many games behind who, and blowing a win now will put you 3 games back in September instead of 2. That affects how you play down the stretch. The more wins you bank early, the easier you can breathe late. The more losses you rack up early, the less margin for error you have late.

I'm glad that the 2001 Mariners have a World Series title in someone's opinion.

Every team will lose at least 50 games, and almost certainly 60. Wrenching your hands over a single one in April is incredibly pointless.

I'm gonna credit Russell Wilson with their performance so far.
