Until his music is featured on Glee I'll have to assume he's no good.

The album, released in March, is Bowie's first since 'Reality' in 2003 and has been met with critical acclaim.

*FACEPALM*

Has the entire internet forgotten that Heathen happened? This is the third site I've seen make this mistake. Heathen was a much, much better album than Reality.

I wiki'd it after wondering the same thing.  It's the best album released in the UK.  But yeah, why not let the rest of us know in the article?

Kinda weird.

Hm... My mistake. I was certain Heathen came out in 2004. I never saw it until after college.

"Heathen" was released before "Reality" so the statement is correct. Hope DB puts out another album before another decade passes.

Is NME a UK mag?   I mean, it could be like a US magazine going "He is the favorite to win a Grammy, which is given to the best artists of the year"... maybe everyone in the UK knows what it is?

How shiatty would it be to be an up and coming band, working hard, finally getting an album out.....and then Bowie releases and album the same month/year?

That would suck.

Pretty much.  And anyone who cares about music should know that the Mercury Prize is the English version of album of the year.

On the other hand, I wouldn't expect most people to know what the Ivor Novello Prize is.

I am a huge Bowie fan.

Sorry, but The Next Day shouldn't shouldn't be the Mercury Prize winner.  I am ecstatic that DB put out a new album.  If he tours again, I will move heaven and earth to see at least one show, but this album is not as good as Reality.  It's not even in the same zip code as Heathen.

The video for The Stars (Are Out Tonight) is brilliant, but not much else from the album has grabbed me.

I think it's a good album. It definitely has merit beyond "Oh wow, Bowie released something!". But I'm not sure it should be a front-runner for any AotY awards. But given who it is from, how long it had been since he'd done anything, how it surprised everyone, and the fact that it is a solid outing, he'll probably garner a lot of attention for it. Which is fine by me. Better Bowie than most of the alternatives.

Everything this guy said. And thank you for saying it.

/listened to the whole thing, liked the concept of revisiting each of his creative eras, then shrugged at the end result
