KarlMaldensNose: gas giant: We Traded our C (Pommer), what did we get for him? I can't seem to find ANYTHING right now.

Glad Clayton Stoner is staying put in Minnesota...nothing better than hearing "Stoner takes a hit in the corner."

My major problem with Feaster is that it was obvious that the Flames' core wasn't going to get it done more than two years ago. If he'd offloaded his players THEN, he might have actually gotten a return and been able to rebuild the team without bottoming out. However, he waited, got next to nothing for his assets, and now the Flames are going to suck HARD for the next few years... it's going to be a rough time in southern Alberta.

This leads to two questions: 1) How does he still have a job? 2) How does he plan to re-acquire Jokinen this summer?

Go Oilers!

Wow, I see the Coyotes sold off a few pieces. But the only one who did anything of note here was Torres (and I don't just mean becoming public enemy #1 in Chicago).  But that means they saved him from going to Chicago since the Sharks are done with the Hawks, unless they meet in the playoffs.

So the Flyers send Bobrovsky to Columbus, then end up getting the guy he replaced to help in trying to shore up their own issues in goal? Christ.

Also, I really dislike the Gaborik trade from the BJ's perspective. It's nothing that will ruin them or anything, and I guess that was their logic - a chance to make a big splash without selling off the farm - but I'll be surprised if it pays dividends.

Bishop for Conacher. That thing has potential to be looked back on as something huge for both teams.

And, at the risk of sounding like a douche, it wasn't so much the trades that happened today, it was the ones that didn't. Was sure a few more fairly prominent names were on the move.

At least they won't have to worry about them in a few weeks.

The reaction of one of them to not moving? "My contract sucks."

Nashville trades Latta and Erat for Filip Foresberg from the Capitals per Bob McKenzie and LeBrun.

The Sabres now have  11 draft picks in first two rounds over the next three years.

2013
Own 1st
Minnesota's 1st (Pominville trade)
Own 2nd
St. Louis' 2nd (Leopold trade)

2014
Own 1st
Own 2nd
Minnesota's 2nd (Pominville trade)
Los Angeles' 2nd (Regehr trade)

2015
Own 1st
Own 2nd
Los Angeles' 2nd (Regehr trade)

Now that is how you commit yourself to a rebuild.  Honestly I can't remember the last time the Sabres stockpiled high round picks like this.  I'm fascinated to see what comes out of it.

As a Jackets fan, I'm thrilled. We gave up some cogs for a potential 40 goal scorer? I'll take that every time. Plus we got rid of Mason, who was gone after this year anyway.

No argument here.

1) I have no idea

2) i lol'd and I imagine we'll part with at least two of those first round picks we just got so we can get him back.

2013-04-03 05:35:14 PM
Actually The Shoveller, the only thing I would say is that the Flames became the mini-Maple Leafs in that we were still selling out the Saddledome every night despite an on-ice product that would likely never get the job done.

I would argue that it was a management decision to ride Iggy and Kipper into the ground to keep the seats filled for as utterly long as possible.

There's not a doubt in my mind right now that they are worried about losing season ticket holders after this most thorough gutting.

Rev.K:

I'm sure they'll lose some seats, but this town is big enough (and hell knows there's enough money) that I think the season tickets won't take too much of a hit. However, it wouldn't surprise me all that much if fewer people actually  used the tickets (i.e., the ticket base stays roughly the same, but the attendance drops).

Hopefully the town buys into the rebuild, and people start developing some optimism. Of course it's management's job to make people optimistic via decent drafting.....

I want the Oilers to be the better team, but there's not much fun to be had when it's not competitive.

Bad news buddy, Gaborik has a better chance of landing on the IR(again) then hitting 40.

Blame Vokoun. Gives up 4 goals on only 13 shots.

But then... this is following 2 consecutive shutouts and a penguins record amount of time for a single goaltender to avoid giving up a goal.

Pity though that we miss the damn winning streak record by 3. But then, the penguins have the record anyway, so, I don't feel so bad.

Dregger on TSN was saying Vancouver called Toronto 3 times between 2 and 3 trying to get Luongo delt, 3rd time was close (why he was pulled from practice) but not close enough for Nonis...  first two were Scrivens and a variety of picks, third one dropped Scrivens and the Leafs still wouldn't bite on that contract.

I'm pretty sure Feaster has been a good company man since he got hired.  He is just doing what ownership is telling him to do, and making the best of a bad situation.  Ownership didn't want to blow the team up, so Feaster stood in front of the media and fibbed that the Flames were contenders.

Drafting Baertschi  was a good move, trading Rene Bourque for  Cammalleri was a good move, signing Hudler and Wiseman as free agents were good moves ...

Where he's going to really have to make hay is with those three first round picks.

None of this off the board sh*t, none of this trading down because we know the guy we want sh*t, they have to make the picks they should make.

There's all sorts of material on the top 30 in the draft and we can get three of them for f*ck sake, so make the right choices.

It is a deep draft, anywhere in the top ten or so is golden, but it drops off from there... but like most years there are a few winning picks into the third round, but they typically are three or four years out at best...  I hope Flames fans are okay with a few more years pain for some long term gain...

Flyers 3 wins in a row now... still not looking great for a playoff spot, but if they keep it up like they have the last few games they might just sneak into an 8 seed. Then they can knock out the NBC Penguins again to much laughter and schadenfreude.

If the get a good start tomorrow night, they might have a shot at beating the Leafs, they've been off for four days, and will be rusty early, I'd think...
But the Leafs have all three wins so far this year though... that might be in there heads a bit.

Good start and bad officiating... Dahorski needs his bank account looked at for big deposits the day after he calls Leaf games, that fourth goal was pretty ripe...
