ridding the nation of pornography has become something of a cause celebre among social conservatives.

LOL. Yeah, good luck with that.

2013-04-02 04:04:05 PM
These people really do NOT understand the magnitude of the fight they're trying to pick.
They have a better chance of banning gay marriage.

Do Republicans want the government telling people what they can and cant do or watch?

That is so unlike them.

He not only refuses to enforce obscenity laws currently on the books that prohibit the distribution of hardcore pornography, but he even disbanded the office charged with enforcement STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE

Tell you farknuts what. Let's make a deal. You want to start infringing on people's rights, you go first. Let us prosecute you for speaking your mind and we'll let him try to prosecute porn after you're all locked up in Gitmo.

The other nine winners singled out by Morality in Media include Comcast, Facebook, Google Play, LodgeNet, Twitter, Wikipedia, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Barnes & Noble, and the Department of Defense, which allegedly "has a serious pornography problem, and it is doing next to nothing to combat it."

Why do I get the sense that the fine folks over at Morality in Media are putting a great deal of effort into researching the sources of pornography, often late into the night?

2013-04-02 04:16:59 PM
You just know they are watching hardcore porn for research purposes.

Soft on "porn" porn or child porn?

RTFA: oh for fark's sake. Don't those people realize adult porn is not illegal? It's like saying Holder is soft on smoking. Jesus Christ, shut up!

I've lived in barracks.  I've seen the porn collections in armories where you have one guy on duty 24/7 behind a locked door.  Trust me, the DoD has some of their best men working long and hard on pornography.  It just doesn't seem like it because they're using an attrition strategy.

Any Republicans mind telling me why a party that professes fiscal conservatism and a reduced role of government in an individuals life is so hardcore about banning gay marriages, abortion, and porn?   Isn't this completely out of your mission statement?

Furthermore, I've yet to hear a good SECULAR(because our nation is secular...it is) reason for the ban on gay marriage.

It's frequently reported that in-room hotel porn usage goes up considerably when a conservative political convention is in town. So I figure the anti-porn crusade is a case of these people thinking porn is wrong, but they can't stop themselves, so they want to use the apparatus of the state to stop them instead.

Perhaps there's something similar going on with anti-gay legislation, come to think of it.

/wonder how conservative conventions compare with, say, sci-fi or gaming cons wrt in-room porn

I though the AG's MO was to only step in when it is blatantly illegal (child porn), and uses a relatively soft touch on everything else.

If it's consensual, it's legal, and protected 1st Amendment speech, right?

They only allow for the fiscal conservatism and reduced government insofar as it coincides with their stance as the Family Values party.  Government should get out of limiting the influence of religious groups and lobbyists, in their eyes.  The money saved can then be used to enforce and regulate morality, as that is the best use of government.  Not providing for their good and welfare, but giving the illusion of protecting the people from themselves.

Last time we diverted  government resources to whining about porn, ~3,000 people were killed in a terrorist attack. Coincidence? I think not.

I will believe their "concern" when they make a "cause celebre" about human trafficking and prostitution.

Do something about that first. THEN worry about what consenting adults do "because won't someone think of the children?"
