so much this. Of all the Pixar films that could warrant a sequel, one would think that a story about a family of superheroes would make the short list.

Disney's never been too good with sequels. Don't believe me? Lion King 2 is probably tops and even that was not even CLOSE to the original.

I could see Incredibles being one of their few franchises with a franchise possibility, especially with Jack Jack growing up and the whole middle-ages adult themes that movie had.

But otherwise, DIsney & Pixar, no capes, no sequels.

Edit: Yes, Toy Story is a huge exception, even though TS2 was originally planned as DTV. So I'll definitely prove myself wrong on that.

And yet they've still not announced any actual sequel to the movie we want them to make: Incredibles 2.

Lion King 2 is a direct-to-video movie... How good would you expect it should be?  Most Disney sequels in the past fall in the same category... They're not intended to be theatrical releases.

Though i've never seen them, Toy Story 2 and 3 are supposed to be pretty good, if you are including Pixar movies.... And the trailer for the new Monsters sequel looks better than the first one.

Stop making Pixar sequels.  Cars 2 was a mistake, and the Toy Story sequels are not going to be repeated with other properties.  Make new interesting stories with new interesting characters.

Toy Dory?

2013-04-02 07:49:41 PM
I'm in with the Incredibles sequel crowd.

Maybe they just think the superhero market is too glutted right now? That kids who like that kind of thing are seeing the forty billion other ones, and that by diversifying they make more money?

Pixar is in a miserable place. They made some good films: films kids, teens, and adults could enjoy. Interesting characters, snappy dialog, stories with meaning. Then they made Cars. And the toy market went wild and made everyone piles of money. Cars 2 was to rekindle the profits of merchadizing.

And they're beginning to run out of great ideas. So Pixar's had a good run. Disney had good years, followed by terrible decades, then a few good years, then bad decades. It comes; it goes.

... even the Beatles were starting to run out of ideas after six years or so...

Why? Where are they going to take the story? What made Incredibles good was the story of them trying to function in a world that didn't want them. That world no longer exists.

Nah, they'll spread the sequels around:

Rata2ille - Remy and Linguini go to Italy to find out more about Linguini's mother's side of the family.  There they meet MacAroni, a Scotsman who wants to learn how to cook...

Upper - Fresh out of college, Russell is handling Karl's funeral and estate arrangements when he finds Karl's prescription drugs and learns that he doesn't need a house full of balloons to fly.

A Bug's Lives - Four abbreviated re-tellings of the first movie from the points of view of Princess Atta, P. T. Flea, Hopper, and lastly Tuck and Roll.

The Incredibles 2 - Sucker. Like this is going to happen.  Plus you just lost The Game.

2013-04-02 09:47:52 PM
I know sequels are generally disliked, but I don't mind this. The underwater world of FN was beautiful and I don't mind an excuse to explore it some more.

TS2 was great and TS3 was surprisingly awesome/moving so if anyone can do it Pixar can. Hated Cars and skipped Cars 2 but I'll go see Monsters Inc. 2 and probably this as well. Never loved Incredibles but a sequel that is essentially a 2-hour version of the city fight at the end of 1 with various funny Pixar villains (like that Mole Man who drills up at the end) would probably be a pretty wonderful way to spend 2 hours.

/I'm part of the problem
//Pixar movies go great with proper substance abuse beforehand as well

VibroCount: ... even the Beatles were starting to run out of ideas after six years or so...

The songs on the first round of solo albums argue against that.  What happened was they all started saving the best material for those records.

And that's the long and short of it: when Brad Bird's happy with the script, they start rolling.  That's how he keeps from making crap.

Maybe one or two by John... many from George... nothing of value from either Paul nor Ringo. George blossomed after the breakup. John got drunk for years (as did Ringo). Paul started writing and recording the worst crud of his life... and never came out of it.

Also in the Pixar pipeline: the original films "The Good Dinosaur," "Inside Out" and the untitled Dia de los Muertos movie. But lets ignore that and condemn them for making a sequel because they made one bad sequel that you didn't go see anyway.

/didn't go see it either
//will go see "Monsters U"
