I was in the river valley on Saturday. It takes a special kind of stupid to go out on that ice this time of year, and it takes a special kind of hero to go in after you.

Sounds to me like the guy saved the one girl, then threw his dog into the water with its leash on so the girl could grab it and he pulled the dog and girl back in.  Doesn't sound like the dog did anything at all.

FTFA: With time running out, Adam put the leash around Rocky and pushed him into the water. The girl grabbed and held onto the leash while Rocky swam back towards the ice, where Adam was able to pull everyone to safety until rescue crews arrived.

Um, the guy threw his dog in.  The dog was about self-preservation.

So not really "jumped back in" as much as "the owner used the dog as a tool to pass a rope to the girl".

Still, good thinking on that one.  That likely wouldn't have occurred to me in that situation, would have just tried to toss the leash at her directly.

the dog is a hero in that it selflessly tried desperately to save itself from the cold water.

As Adam tried to inch closer to the girl, the ice suddenly gave way, plunging him and Rocky into the icy water.
.....
With time running out, Adam put the leash around Rocky and pushed him into the water.

So despite what the thread title says, the truth is that Adam's fat arse broke through the ice and he took Rocky with him.  Rocky managed to escape an icy death, only to see Adam pick him up and throw him right back in the river.

Rocky's licking on that bone thinking about how he's going to do the same thing to Adam's leg tonight.....

He's also an old heroic pooch. Good on him and his owner but I hope the old guy doesn't suffer health problems because nobody bothered to watch their young children near a barely frozen river.

I'm watching mine on the security cam right now.  2 of them are curled up on the couch.  The biggest one ( the "Guard Dog") is sprawled out in my recliner looking like he is waiting on a beer.

So Adam threw Rocky's leash to the girl, but she was just out of reach.

Hey! Careful, dumbass! That's still attached to me!

That's when things took a turn for the worse. As Adam tried to inch closer to the girl, the ice suddenly gave way, plunging him and Rocky into the icy water.

AHHH! Jesus Christ! How is this helping? This is the worst walkies ever, you asshole!

Soaking wet, he looked around for the young girl, but she was gone.

Okay, well, time to go the fark home then, you sadistic piece of sh--

After a few seconds, she popped back up about 50 or 60 yards away. With time running out, Adam put the leash around Rocky and pushed him into the water.

AHHHHH FARK YOU SO HARD. I am going to shiat on your bed every day for the rest of my life. Count on it, motherfarker.

2013-04-02 03:42:25 PM
Well, without even seeing a picture, we know that it wasn't a pitbull.  A pit would've swam past the girls to the other side of the lake, mauled a baby girl in a stroller, tore the throat out of her mother, then swam back across to attack the owner.  All while being defended by some moron holding a "GOOD DOG BAD OWNER" sign.

He had to push a retriever into the water?  The water must have been real freaking cold.  My lab/golden mix would have jumped right in as soon as the leash was let go.  Keeping him out of the water was the hard job even in the depths of winter.  He loved swimming in any weather.  He'd gladly have jumped in, mind you he was a bit goofy so he might have taken the girl on a tour of the open water before bringing her in.  Might as well take a swim first right?

Heh. My pup has severe separation anxiety, and tears up even things you didn't think him capable of destroying. So we started locking him in the bathroom, since after removing all the mats and dangerous liquids, there was nothing left to destroy (shower is a door, not a curtain). So we get home and what do we find? The bastard clawed and chewed a hole in the wall that would have made Andy Duphraine proud.

2013-04-02 09:17:05 PM
The dog willingly came along. The push was just to let the dog know where to go. If the dog had a mind to get back on land there is no way the human could've made him stay in the water while also trying to swim at the same time.

2013-04-02 10:49:32 PM
The adult male human being pulled the first juvenile female human being out of the water and then he and his adult male canine being proceeded to fall in the water. He then pushed his adult male canine being back up onto the ice and used the adult male canine being's lead to pull himself out of the water. After that he pushed the adult male canine being back into the water so the second juvenile female human being could grab hold of him and hitch a ride back to the ice.

How does anyone read that as the adult male canine being rescuing two juvenile female human beings? The adult male human being rescued both juvenile female human beings using the adult male canine being as a prop - first by climbing over him and then later by using him as a floatation device.

Dog was a husky cross & you can see he has the husky fur so the cold probably didn't faze the dog at all. He was probably better off then the dude who fell in the water & had to run after the 2nd girl all icy wet.
