That's actually a good move. New Orleans has always been the team clubs got when the music stopped and they still didn't have a team.

2013-04-02 09:30:58 AM
Makes sense. People drink a lot in Houston. They also often need maps.

2013-04-02 10:10:02 AM
well they aren't spending money on salary.  might as well buy something else...seems like an odd plan though.

2013-04-02 10:13:42 AM
Perhaps, but nobody will ever screw up the naming of a minor league as badly as the Astros did when they called their team in Kissimmee, Florida, the "Osceola County Astros," instead of the "Kissimmee Astros."

2013-04-02 10:26:29 AM
Umm, that's 'Tied for 1st place in the AL West Houston Astros'... Sure, it's only 1-game in, but when are they going to be able to say that again?

This every-day is interleague play thing is going to take some getting used too.

2013-04-02 10:28:13 AM
If the AAA team moves to the Houston area won't they outdraw the AA club currently playing in Houston?

2013-04-02 10:28:30 AM
But I don't drive ANYWHERE near Houston, why would AAA set up shop there?

2013-04-02 10:40:27 AM
1-0 biatches!

2013-04-02 10:55:13 AM
If the Astros get the Zephyrs to bolt, I fully expect the city of New Orleans to go after the Nashville Sounds franchise. It's probably the weakest AAA franchise in Minor League Baseball, and it's name also fits perfectly for the city.

Should have called them the "Mouse Traps"

A Fark Handle: well they aren't spending money on salary.  might as well buy something else...seems like an odd plan though.

Even so, do they have enough money to build a ballpark in The Woodlands?

WTF Indeed: That's actually a good move. New Orleans  Las Vegas has always been the team clubs got when the music stopped and they still didn't have a team.

At least for the past few years it has been. Blue Jays 09-12 and now the Mets

Know who else likes "Our ball club may be minor league, but at least they're AAA?"

Yeah, Vegas' ball park is terrible. Plus the wind is always going 30 mph and it's 110 degrees. Not a
good mix for baseball.

My girlfriends cousin is Rick Ankiel, that's all I know about the Houston Astros.

2013-04-02 01:33:55 PM
Fun fact, the NOLA Zephers were once the AAA club of the Astros. Now they are the AAA club of the Marlins. I go to Zepher games about once a year and it is a decent place to go. The pool beyond the right field wall is nice to sit in if there isn't a school field trip going on.

2013-04-02 01:56:28 PM
How about putting together a product baseball fans would want to see first?

And it's about 2500' above sea level too, just for good measure. Jays quit sending any decent prospects to AAA because the pitchers would get rocked and the hitters were impossible to judge based on stats when half the team is hitting .310 and Dewayne Wise is hitting .380 or so.

2013-04-02 03:03:12 PM
Not sure why the Zephyrs would move?  I thought they drew pretty well down here, seeing as there isn't much going on sports-wise during baseball season.

The game I went to seemed to have plenty of fans.  And many of the fans were REALLY into the team.

Never!  Nashville knows it must maintain its reciprocal sports bond with Milwaukee!

(The Sounds are the Brewer's AAA affiliate, and the Milwaukee Admirals are the Predator's AHL affiliate)

Sadly that is about average for the PCL I know Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City and Albuqurque are higher in elevation.  Probably Reno also.  I have gone to many games here in SLC and I have not been to a game where there wasn't a HR hit.  Crazy.

2013-04-02 09:10:55 PM
Well, they can't be any worse than the single-A club that is playing in Marlins Stadium.

2013-04-02 09:53:53 PM
*facepalm*

It's not like there is a minor league team right outside of Houston that has a new, great minor league stadium (that's is built for AAA standards), set attendance records in its league its first year in, and is in one of the most rapidly growing parts of the metro area or anything

/I mean seriously, fans pissed off you are rebuilding?, say "hey, you can see the future stars of the Astros just half an hour down the road from the real team!"
//sure as hell makes it easier for folks to root for call-ups if they have freakin heard of them, much less watched them play
///sugar land slashies

And Yu Darvish currently has a perfect game through 7 against the Astros.

Perfect through 8, announcer ponders out loud, "We'll see if he comes out for the 9th."

Well, the Lastros did win on opening night...

Honestly, perfect games vs Houston count?

This would be that piece of shiat AJ Pierzynski's second perfect game caught in less than a year

mlb.com will most likely stream the bottom of the 9th for free.

MLB.tv is going to switch away from the Dodgers game when he comes back out.

pretend for a moment that i don't know anything about metallurgy, engineering, or physics... and that i don't have MLB network.  that's what i mean by, can't find it on TV.  i guess.

I think I lost count of the number of times Crain said if we can get somebody to build it for us.   We had a perfectly good stadium here already that you guys decided wasn't profitable enough so we built you another one for the Astros.

The Astrodome is still setting there in need of renovation.  They should build their own stadium or pay to renovate the Astrodome, but in no way should public money be used to finance another Farking stadium in the Houston area.

The Astrodome will never be renovated.  It is cost prohibitive to do so.  The only question is how long it will take to finally scrap the damn thing and who will bear the costs.

Don't worry I am sure he will come back down to earth when he plays an actual MLB team.
