Drysdale Monday, Koufax Tuesday. Totalfark.

Straight center and the center fielder stopped running early. That'll do pitcher, that'll do.

All internet service in the Bay Area must have gone down about 3:30 yesterday. A constant barrage of Dodger bashing and/or Giant world champion graphics suddenly stopped showing up in my text messages and in box. For one day, at least, it feels great to be True Blue.

Come to think of it, every day Vin is calling the game is a good day.

Drysdale wouldn't approve- so what if Kershaw got the win and a homer? Two Dodgers were hit by pitches, and Kershaw didn't even hit one Giant in retaliation.

The Kershaw/Koufax comparisons are becoming more and more valid.

On the MLB Network's postgame show, they were naturally raving about the kid. Finally, Talking Head #1 asked "Should he have still been pitching? It's a long season, should he go for the CG out of the box?"

Talking Head #2 replied- "Pitch count. He only needed 85 pitches for the game."

That's really freakin' efficient.

What, no "Giants are from San Francisco, so they'd be happy to suck it" jokes?

Dodgers can have this win. Because when the Giants are owning the NL West and they are barely in reach of the Wild Card, the fans will need something positive to take into the long winter off.

Let Beckett do it, he probably won't be winning anyway.
Also, Koufax let Drysdale do most of his dirty work, anyway.

The Giants have won two World Series in the past three years. The Dodgers will have to do a hell of a lot more than this for "Suck it, Giants" to have any sting whatsoever. Remind me, when was the last time the Dodgers were in the World Series?

/Still, rivalry aside, Kershaw's quite a player. National League baseball FTW.

Even though it doesn't sting, you just had to reply. Because it doesn't sting. Even a little.  Nuh-uhhhh.

And it was absolutely AWESOME!! Kershaw even did the Kirk Gibson fist-pump as he was rounding third after hitting the homer.

/glad to have seen it in person

Meh. It stings about as much as losing a game to the Dodgers always does, but that hurts a lot less since 2010 and 2012. (I'm 42, and had almost resigned myself to the Giants never winning a World Series.) And probably a whole lot less than it stung Dodgers fans last year when the Giants eliminated them from the Wild Card.

But I'm not trying (too hard) to troll. The fact that this game was a great pitcher's duel until they yanked Cain and the fact that Kershaw hit as well as pitched makes me glad for this rivalry and for National League baseball. Maybe ESPN, et al, will even pay attention to it if the Yankees and Red Sox stink, as they look like they might.

It's all good, it's one game out of 161 and Kershaw has always been tough to beat especially at home. They can have the opening day win. We have a flag raising ceremony Friday. Oh and a ring ceremony Sunday.

I get why you're excited and I get why that's being stretched out, but it's still kind of a dick move by the team.

/All the pomp should be done in the home opener.

He pitched a four-hit shutout and hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to break a 0-0 tie, assuring both sides of the Dodgers' eventual 4-0 victory. In doing both, he also made history. A few facts:
• He's only the second pitcher since 1921 to hit a home run and a throw a shutout on opening day. The other was Bob Lemon in 1953.
• He's the 15th pitcher on opening day to throw a complete-game shutout with less than four hits and no walks. None of the other pitchers hit home runs.
=====================================================

The first paragraph says four hits. The 3rd says 'less than four hits'.

Something is wrong here!

If it can be done quick, otherwise you're forcing the other team to stand around and wait a long time. I suspect this year's dog and pony show will be much quicker and more polished than the one in 2011. Asa Giants fan, I loved it. But you could tell that, quite frankly, the Giants were not used to putting on one of these things.

Hopefully, they can win a few more of these in the coming decade or so and really get the pomp and circumstance down to a science.
