*scans article*

I see nothing that says China in there. They've been (from my distant perspective) pretty quiet about all of this.

Ah. Here's the answer.

A show of force by U.S. stealth jets over the Korean Peninsula after talk of war by Pyongyang has caused only minor concern in China, a measure of Beijing's belief that the North is to blame for the tensions and that hostilities are not imminent.

So China knows this is SNAFU.

Russia, China's giant neighbor to the north and west, also appears to be setting aside its rivalry with the United States When it comes to issues with North Korea.

So basically it is the US, China and Russia against Fatty Kim.

Well, this certainly undermines the otherwise prestigious credibility of Best Korea.  I wonder why eternal leader Kim Idiot Slob has this in his plan?

I think everyone knows the US doesn't really have any interest in a war with North Korea, but will fight it if they attack South Korea.

Unlike 1950, though, China and Russia are much more comfortable that the US will stop at the Korea-China border. Also, they both do a lot more business with the US than they do with North Korea.

North Korea, meanwhile, is mobilizing missile forces, including road-mobile short- and medium-range missiles, according to officials familiar with satellite imagery of missile bases.

NK just have to be mouthing off, because they don't have enough missiles to take out any country before the retaliation puts a serious hurt on North Korea. I can imagine a couple of US subs sitting not too far from the coast of Best Korea, with commanders just itching to launch a few strikes at them.

2013-04-01 06:47:05 PM
As much as NK is not a real threat, a group of people with much smaller numbers and no nuke capability caused more damage to the US than anyone since Japan.

"China's navy also conducted live-firing naval drills by warships in the Yellow Sea that were set to end Monday near the Korean peninsula, in apparent support of North Korea, which was angered by ongoing U.S.-South Korean military drills that are set to continue throughout April.

Knee deep in the hoopla. I'm at least cautiously optimistic that this will all amount to tantrums followed by standing down by every country involved, but if someone was just awakened from a time capsule and shown these events on the news, they would think WWIII is imminent.

Lil'Kim: So, what exactly am I supposed to see?
General: Well, nothing really sir. That's kinda the point. They will launch from over the horizon, using satellite guided navigation systems. Being operated from a base in Missouri. You won't really see anything, until the flash that is...
Lil'Kim: ah,,, maybe I should call it off then?
General: Yes, good idea, sir.

That's what I wondered.

NK is closer to Mao's vision of communism than Stalin's, isn't it?

"I would note that-despite the harsh rhetoric we're hearing from Pyongyang-we are not seeing changes to the North Korean military posture, such as large-scale mobilizations and positioning of forces," press secretary Jay Carney told reporters at his daily briefing. "We haven't seen action to back up the rhetoric."

I think George W. Bush said expressed those same thoughts more succinctly:

"Bring it on."

/I hope Mr. Carney continues taunting a psychotic leader and his band of mentally-detached underlings. We may get a nuclear war out of this yet. If Mr. Carney gets his say.

It's really it's own thing.  NK modified the hammer and sickle to include a writer's brush, and the system deifies the ruler much more than Lenin's, Stalin's or Mao's did.  The ruler very much matter, but he would still pass on.  That isn't the case with NK.  Furthermore they don't try to export their ideology anywhere except SK.
