Holi in Nepal was a blast... One big street party with people coming up at random and (if you're a westerner like me) asking if they can paint you... I got smudged a few times, and returned the favor just as many. There was one white-haired American at the airport who was completely dusted... He looked like a football hooligan. A bunch of Japanese tourists asked if they could pose for pictures with him.

There was a celebration outside of Seattle this weekend and my husband insisted I not attend (we were going somewhere in that area and then to dinner after), I saw the people colored all colorful like and I was immediately all about it (I knew it was Holi, just not that they were celebrating in this park!) He was very insistent that it wouldn't work for our plans. Next year.

Yeah...talking with a colleague about the origin of Easter (story does not include bunnies!) and this Indian guy from accounts drops by to discuss something, hears the talk about Easter, so he mentions Holi.
I'm just standing there with a confused look on my face wondering why is a Hindu talking about Easter but calling it Holy. I'm thinking he means as a Holiday.

It was only when he said "Diwali is the Festival of Lights and Holi I the festival of colors," that I went oh...so that's what it is called.

/yay multiculturalism!!

I remember being in Bangalore when this festival was going on and all I could think is "I wonder how much toxic crap is in this coloured powder that's now filling up my lungs".

Holi in Delhi is pretty intense. There's a fair bit of alcohol and other intoxicants involved - consumed by a lot of people who don't normally drink.

It's also not the safest time to be female or on the road, not that either of which is necessarily that fun in Delhi at the best of times.
