Critics also claimed that the palace had an uncanny resemblance to Istanbul's Hagia Sophia mosque.

You mean that building that was constructed as an Eastern Orthodox cathedral centuries before Islam even existed?

In the race between Muslims and Christians to see whose members can be the whiniest douchebags, the Muslims just took a slight lead.

Should I start buying up the sets now to make a profit selling them on eBay to obsessive fans?

Yup, came here to say this. I bet the convo totally went along the lines of "We've got the whole Jabba re-design set for the end of 2014, lets throw these idiots a bone so we can get some freakin peace over here. In the meantime, lets make a billion of them"

I'm thinking nobody was buying the Jabba playset, so if they make it seem like it's going out of production they will sell a lot more to the idiots.

Out of curiosity, how did Sybarite replying to an actual quote from the article imply he didn't actually read the article?

I've wanted one for a while but it's $120. I can't justify that even though it has an awesome set of unique minifigs unavailable elsewhere.

Well the joke's on them because lego sets are only each in production for 2 years, so it was going to be discontinued in 2014 anyways.

Lego added the "Jabba's Palace" playset to its Star Wars collection in 2012
But yesterday it emerged it had backed down and agreed to end its production from 2014 onwards.

Most sets are only out for 2-ish years anyway. I don't think Lego did any backing down.

Jabba is a crime lord who likes minions, gambling, murder and women.  Isn't it more of an Italian mob stereotype than anything?

Well, that info saves anyone who might pull the "buy em up and flip em for profit" angle. The thought crossed my mind but with 9 months or so of production left Id say any real demand will be filled.

I thought the Hagia Sophia was Byzantine architecture, and was based partly on the design of the Pantheon in Rome?'

I had no idea Marcus Agrippa was a sekrit Muslin.

Nah, sounds closely like Mohammed. I can understand why they would be angry.

"The game is pedagogical dynamite. It depicts Muslims as terrorists,"

Actually, I think a few groups of terrorists who jihad and happen to be Muslim are the ones that depict Muslims as terrorists.

Jabba was shown to be a "terrorist who likes to smoke hookah and have his victims killed".

Actually he's a mobster - into bounty hunting and smuggling. Italians don't fight the AFI for letting it list Godfather and Godfather II on the "Best Movies" lists.

Seriously surprised they didn't bomb the Lego factory in retaliation for this.

Yeah, a Hutt gangster, part of a decadent cabal that controls the flow of spices in one direction and slaves in the other?  Sounds like Lucas mocking a bunch of 10th century caliphates.  Are these groups trying to claim that's their heritage?
