of India's Premier Cricket tournament - watched by 60 million people

Really? 60 million in India? That's a six percent market penetration and they're comparing it to Superbowl, which gets more viewers than actually exist.

Cricket is as popular (if not more so) than football here.

That would never happen in good ole Woodstock times
/mainly because organizers would find enough benjamins no matter what

in december 2001 mtv & uso did a show for the troops at ramstein airbase, where i was stationed. i was in transportation...so i had friends who were in vip trans, who drove around the performers and their people. by all their accounts, kid rock was just as cool and laid back as could be, and he ended up being the best of the performers, and with the longest set at about an hour. keep in mind, he had a brand new album out, off which he did 1 or 2 songs...he was there to play hits for fans...not to self-promote new material. he had even done an impromptu accoustic gig at the country bar on vogelweh base down the road...even road the mechanical bull and took a pic with my friend while she was wearing his red white & blue fur full-length coat!

ja rule, they said, was pretty much like you may expect...not too snoody, but kind of trying to be cooler than he was. his set was fairly long considering he was a minor celebrity, but he had ashanti with him, so that didn't hurt.

j-lo...oh, she was a diva thru and thru. she was too good for the visiting-officer-quarters (essentially a decently nice hotel on-base) where the others stayed...she had to have a specific hotel 40+ miles away in mannheim. her stage setup was by far the most ellaborate (even had a forklift hidden to lift her thru a trapdoor on the stage), she had at least 2 clothing changes, yet she only performed approx. 20 minutes

J-Lo is ancient, and arrogant. Her riders are more insane than Billy Joel, Stevie Nicks, Seinfeld, and many more.

I wonder what it's like sometimes, to walk the world with such self-confidence.

2013-04-01 11:24:14 AM
Why is J.Lo even in the news these days?  She doesn't really sing anymore, does she?  I guess she has her fashion line up still, but that hardly warrants diva status.

I heard a few stories about her appearing on BBC shows here. They do more or less what she wants (but said no to the "I want my dressing room filled with puppies" demand) and just send the bill to her record company. I assume they take it out of her advance, so whatever crazy stuff she wants she ends up paying for.

Just so you know, people who make demands like that don't really care whether or not you hire them. It doesn't do any good to try and tell them they are wrong when it doesn't matter to them in the first place.

When I read about it, I admit that my opinion of the guy changed for the better. He had to know that he was being trolled, but he did it. Kind of like how Taco Bell flew in all those free tacos to some Alaskan town when pranksters [falsely] advertised that they were going to get them. Sometimes people do the noble thing, and it is refreshing in this day and age.

More or less.
For the performer, any type of really expensive riders do nothing more than shrink their bottom line.
If she wants 200 Motels, then fine. It's her money.

She stayed at the hotel I cooked in when she was in DC for the WH Super Bowl party in 2011. Her, Marc Anthony, the kids and their endless entourage.

They ordered room service 3 times before the Super bowl party, all shiat not on the menu. 2 orders during the game, I assume it was the entourage since they were at the White House. And then, after the game, right before the end of my shift, they order about 16 items from room service put in to go containers. No wonder she has a fat ass.

Shane MacGowan, however, was awesome. He wanted to come into the kitchen to meet the cooks. Chef wouldn't allow it.

i was there 98-02, during which time some changes took place (new terminals, new dorms, etc). went back for a little visit in 04 and there had already been so many more changes i almost didn't recognize it. since 04 i REALLY wouldn't recognize it...probably over 1/2 the old buildings have been replaced and added, roads have been changed, etc.

but i absolutely loved my time there. one of my main reasons for enlisting in the airforce was to someday have a little vacation in germany...but i got to spend over 4 years there, so even better!

Still, I'd expect more viewers since TVs are shareable. Watching parties and whatnot.

That's where advertising improves an economy. Make the people desire more than they have and they'll try to get to a higher standard of living. The result of desire is not always suffering, sometimes it results in running water.

I'm pretty sure that's what happens when you pay 200 people in order to look like a big deal. If "entourage" were my chosen profession, I'd probably be quite the cheerleader in order to earn that check.

Not only do most people have TVs in India many have cable...I spent some time in Calcutta working with slum kids....In the area we worked in which was the now demolished squatter colony near the Lake Gardens neighborhood most of the homes were small huts built with scrap.  But everyone had a TV and most if not all had cable.  I can only assume they were pirated connections.

I had to look up who the hell he was. Watched a video of his Kodiak trip and it looked like he actually enjoyed being there I never thought I'd put this in the same sentence about a rapper but he was classy about it.  J-Lo on the other hand I seriously doubt would have handled that situation well.

Yup.  No way he didn't know that it was an attempt to insult him, and he just redirected all that negative energy into good publicity, securing new fans, and visiting a beautiful part of our country.  Even if it turns out he just has a good publicist who broke it down as to how it would help him, he went along with it and with a great attitude.  Reflects very well on him as a person.  I'm not big on his music, but I only wish him the best.

/Side note- my best friend looks EXACTLY like Pitbull, only more muscular.  It makes me feel like the "ugly friend" when we hang out together.  Oh well.
