Great game. Scariest basketball injury ever.

My kid is still laughing three minutes after I read your headline to him stubby. Good job.

I didn't get to watch the game, and I refuse to watch the injury... but on a scale of 1 to Theismann, how bad was the injury?

/Saw the Theismann video once, which was more than enough

It was about 1.22 Theismanns

Bad enough that they killed the live feed. Bad enough that you don't want to see the replay even if you're curious, unless you're a total sadist.

The Dookie took the shot, and all of a sudden, everything jumped ahead a few seconds.

Theismann, possibly even a wee bit beyond (seeing as in general one just wears shorts in basketball, versus pants in football).

Seriously just hope the kid comes out OK in the end...

Theismann.  Scale may need to be recalibrated bad, in fact.

They dumped the feed when the injury happened. That's how bad it was.

One minute play going on...next minute all the Louisville players were on the floor crying

I'm not going to watch the footage, seeing a still picture was enough for me.

I saw one Twitter post that said a couple players on the Lville bench actually vomited when they saw it right there in from of them.

Congratulations, Drew!

PS, you know who else predicted that Louisville would beat Duke?

/Hint: element 47.
//He didn't predict Duke's loss per se, but did predict Louisville most likely to go all the way.

i got a kick out of this headline

Anybody remember when Letterman did the Joe Theismann pencil sharpener sketch? That was so tasteless, NBC has eradicated any trace of it.

2013-03-31 08:40:33 PM
I usually watch this stuff, but I would recommend not watching it.

This evening I was having dinner with a friend at a local bar/tavern and when the showed the first replay, everyone in the restaurant just started groaning and yelling.  You could hear forks and knives falling onto plates.

2013-03-31 08:40:38 PM
I thought the Ventura leg break was worse then the Theisman. The Seau arm break gave me the dry heaves.

Well, part of his leg was flopping.

1.5 Theismanns at least. Think Theismann + Malarchuk.

VERY GRAPHIC CONTENT. You will be able to see the bone sticking out of the leg.

For those who missed it.

worse than Theisman since well you could see it's a compound fracture

It's not like it's the first time this has happened in NCAA basketball. It happened at a game I was at, and I imagine it's happened many other times. But yes, any time a bone is sticking out through a player's skin it's pretty scary.

Didn't see the game, or the injury...  but I know that the hospital where he was taken (Methodist Hospital in Indy) is the one that puts Indy 500 drivers back together after they hit the wall.

I think they keep miracles in stock there.

I caved, and clicked. What has been seen cannot be unseen.

CBS showed a couple of replays before they decided that enough was enough. The one angle where you could see the bone sticking out convinced me I didn't need to see it again.

2013-03-31 08:44:15 PM
I'd say this was 9/Theismans

That's because this guy didn't have a pile of players on top of him while his broken bones were sticking out of his skin and splinters of bone were grinding around among the torn flesh and muscle.

2013-03-31 08:44:28 PM
Did the bone go through the skin?  I don't want to watch the video to find out...

What year was he?  Also, I don't know anything about their team - was he a star on the team?

2013-03-31 08:45:07 PM
Saw the video on Youtube. Between this and Lattimore's gruesome injury, it's a toss-up.

I mean, it's horrific. Louisville better honor that scholarship.

I'm pretty sure they didn't initially realize you could see that and hence the replays but once they saw that, that was the end of it.

Yes, it was a compound fracture. I would estimate that it was protruding by three or four inches...difficult to say.

There aren't any pictures in the article to worry about (at least not with noscript/adblock). You can read it and find out all this in about 20 seconds.

Trust me, you don't want to check it out. Consider yourself fortunate.

Nobody is going to call you a wuss if you don't see it because it's horrible, and I can believe it if they say players on the bench vomited when they saw that. If it was in front of me, I may very well have vomited. You just lucked out.

Sure, there are worse things in the world, and maybe the guy will still have a basketball career ahead of him, but damn, we've got really good video technology.

/no real reason to watch that again, or even one time

Yes
Sophomore
Sixth man, secondary ball handler, I believe. Not a starter, but reasonably important.
