Maybe he wanted to leave the heat on? Still, a 4 yr old shouldn't be in the front seat.

Probably to run the ac or heater. The bigger why regards mom in the backseat with toddler in the front of a running vehicle. Idiots.

Idiots indeed. Also lied and said the mom was the one behind the wheel. While not altogether implausible, why not just tell the cops what happened?

The whole story sounds stupid. Who puts a toddler in the driver's seat when the car is left running.

Also, for those of you not familiar with Toronto, the intersection of Jane and Finch is one of the last places you'd ever want to leave a car running unattended.

A four-year-old boy was behind the wheel of an uninsured Toyota Camry that crashed into a McDonald's restaurant in northwest Toronto on Sunday afternoon, police say.

Wow, we got us some whiskey tango black belts, here.

Don't these four year old kids know they absolutely cannot drive around uninsured cars? Plus, he has no taste in cars to begin with.

The kid probably drove his drunk dad to McDonnalds in the first place.

Besides.... a learners license made out of crayon is valid for 6 months.

So...if you want to leave your car running while getting food from McDonald's, why not use the drive-thru(tm)?

Canadians leave their cars on to keep the heater running.

Which always astounded me. (1) Why not manufacture and drive vehicles better suited to this particular climate?, and (2) Why aren't vehicle thefts insanely high? (I mean outside of Winnipeg - car theft capital of the world!)

When I was 4, my father left my in his Pontiac Firebird while he ran in the house.  We had a driveway on a pretty steep hill. While he was inside, I managed to drop the parking brake.  The car went right through the wall into the dining room.  I wasn't hurt, but I shiat all over myself.

How did he put the car in gear? I thought most modern automatics had a safeguard that required the driver's foot on the brake before shifting. The kid probably wasn't in the driver's seat, and even so, a 4 year old's legs aren't that long.
