TuteTibiImperes: I want another Sci-Fi show that involves spaceflight, aliens, and whatnot.  It's a niche that is currently being woefully underserved.

stargate universe just went off the air ... dont worry, sf channel will have another show which gets good and then gets canceled .... soon enough

SuperChuck: They had some trouble because SciFi jerked them around with whether they were getting cancelled or not. I remember reading that they even had trouble with some lost sets/scenery because they were cancelled and then not cancelled. It was really stupid.

they were canceled at the end of season 4. the moya sets were scrapped so the sound-stages could be used for star wars. they had to build all new sets for the mini-series wrap-up. which was still awesome!

Why would the Wrestling channel have a show about space flight?

Edymnion: SpacemanSpoof: Just re-watched it recently with my wife.  She liked it, too, although she seemed less interested in the plot and more in Ben Browder and his leather pants...

Yeah, but come on, we were just as focused on Chiana's pants.

What, you're not holding your hopes up for Defiance?  A TV show tied into an MMO?  It's bound to work, right? right?

The first two season of that show were the best.  Although occasionally they did get a few good episodes in Season 3 (also known as Peckinpah's movie rip-off season) and 4.  I haven't seen much of Season 5 yet.

PK Tech Girl needs some more love. Crichton would have been a lot better of with her instead of getting jerked around by Aeryn for 3 seasons.

Agreed. B5 is my favorite scifi show off all time.

I only first saw Farscape last year but I already "miss it." It's tied with Doctor Who for my favorite Sci-Fi show, but I can see how it might not be for everyone. Peacekeeper Wars may have not been perfect, but it was good enough for me as far as laying the series to rest - at least it got to conclude.

While Farkers in this thread joke about the headline, it speaks to a greater, depressing truth: look at all the other good sci-fi brought up and consider that there's only one current show that fits into that class (Doctor Who). Where did all the sci-fi go?

Bonnie Hammer canceled it, is in the process or canceling it, will cancel it, or won't even give it a chance.

The problem with The Peacekeeper Wars is that they needed another full hour or so to bring it to a conclusion.  For a great character like D'argo, it was genuinely surprising to me that they did not spend more time on him.  It was more like "how brave!  See you!"

In response to your second comment, there is no really good sci-fi out there anymore.  For me, BSG, Farscape, and Fringe have been at the top of the list.

And now I'm reading that Bonnie Hammer was put in charge of all of NBCUniversal Cable, and those articles were back in February of this year, so we probably aren't going to get any good sci-fi on any NBCUniversal Cable channels anytime soon.

No, no it is not. Red Dwarf wants to be much funnier and original, but comes off as B grade schlock that makes you wonder if they are even trying.

Maybe we could get some good sci fi on HBO or Showtime. There's already a good fantasy show on HBO, and i enjoyed camelot back when it was on.

I agree, but Red Dwarf was awesome for what it was.  A comedy which was unrestricted by reality.  Not quite a parody, it used sci-fi as a device, not a base.  At that, it's just plain silly, in line with Hitchhikers, but with more ass and fart jokes.

I watched the first two seasons of Red Dwarf and I only laughed once: when Holly pointed out that the ashes of the dead would make good ice dissolver or something like that.  The rest of the time, I sat there waiting for the show to come to something funny.

Stargate SG1 started out on Showtime (I didn't get into the shower until after it was on Sci-Fi and watching the first season on DVD I was very surprised there were boobs in the first episode) so there is some precedence.

HBO has done well with supernatural (True Blood) and fantasy (GOT) so there is certainly the potential that they could put out a great sci-fi series and make it work financially.

I remember my family subscribing to Showtime just for SG-1.  It was some of the best (and most consistent) sci-fi on television at the time.  It did go on a couple seasons too long, though.  The characters were still good (even the replacements for the original members), but the writers ran out of story.  The Orii just sucked as a villain.

THIS.

Red Dwarf blows in so many ways it's nearly a hurricane.  It's a prime example of a niche show a dozen people on Earth think is funny and they continually try to convince everyone else they're not idiots for liking it.

Blame Syfyllis for that.  The writers were told that season 7 was the end, so they pretty much wrapped everything up and then got told they had been renewed for several more seasons.  "What do you mean we've been renewed?  We tied everything up, there's nothing left to do!"

How many other shows have depicted the hero running around with a copy of the villain in their head waiting for them to think about the formulas they wanted to steal?

None. That's how many.

It's all a matter of personal taste. I'm with you, I never found Claudia Black to be particularly attractive. Sikozu, on the other hand, is about as close to pure female perfection as I have ever seen in my life.

Claudia Black hit maximum hotness in season 2, and kept it all the way until about halfway through season 4.  I think the problem was that Aeryn Sun changed from this badass warrior type to a sweet, loving woman who wept over everything.  That kind of stole a lot of her characterization.
