He doesn't state how far away the star is.  It could be only 1/180th of the distance the earth is from the sun.

Why do you think that quote is wrong?
 
The Earth covers about (2pi*93000000) miles in 8760 hours.  That's about 66705mph.  The star travels 1.2 million mph, which is about 20 times.

They do.  The star, meanwhile, is a red dwarf with a mass just one-fifth that of the sun and is just 620,000 miles (1 million kilometers) from the black hole,

No.  The orbit takes 2.4 hours.  The star is moving 20x as fast as Earth.  No contradiction.
