Decent movie - could've done without the CoD scene between Roadblock and Duke, but characterization I guess for the casual movie goer.  Nice little nods to the comics, you could tell Larry Hama was involved in this film wholeheartedly with many minor details that only one who read the 80s comics would've caught to the major plot device involving the Hard Master.

I've never been able to watch the first GI Joe movie.  It was just so farking bad.

One good thing about the GI Joe movie is that Comixology put the collections of the classic 80s Marvel comic on sale this weekend. Picked up the first 30 issues of the comic, plus the first 10 of Special Missions for $20. It's been fun going back and reading those stories I haven't read since elementary school this weekend. Right now I'm on the one where they meet Ocktober Guard in Afghanistan for the first time.

Satanic_Hamster: I've never been able to watch the first GI Joe movie.  It was just so farking bad.

This one is better.  Yes, it is a continuation of the first film, but there are parts of it where you can just ignore the first one ever existed if you only see this movie.

That Tyler Perry movie looks hysterical...seeing that old lady yell "that boy's gonna send you straight to HELL!" at Jess from "Friday Night Lights" for a month in the TV spots has tempted me greatly.

/in other "FNL cast members at the movies this weekend" news, you see Tyra Collette's thonged ass in the reflection of a TV screen in GI Joe

Saw The Host yesterday, it was a good solid sci fi movie. I guess the reviewer had something against with their need to use anecdotes instead of actually watching the movie. No one laughed in the theater where I watched the film.
Oh, and good performances by Saoirse Ronon and Emily Browning as Wanda.
Don't know why imdb didn't list Emily for that movie, oh well.
Only odd thing was all the import cars in the movie, would have never thought the US Southwest would have that many Unimogs and Lotus Evoras.

I love how the Joes approach the conclusion that Zartan is imitating President Jonathan Pryce by realizing that President Pryce stopped saying "soda" and started saying "pop" at one point.

Knowing *is* half the battle and all that.

Well, there's *slightly* more to it than that.  They notice that President Pryce uses conversational filler phrases like "kind of" and "I know" and that Not President Pryce favors such phrases as "sort of" and "you see."

That, and they observe that President Pryce holds his hands one way while Not President Pryce holds his hands another way.

But yes, I kid you not when I tell you that one of the Joes' red flags about Not President Pryce is how he says "pop" instead of "soda."

That and how he crosses his arms/thumbs.  To be fair, all of America should've figured it out on the soda/pop thing, lol.

If Not President Pryce would have used the phrase "soda-pop" as a way to unite the masses, no one would have suspected a THING.

It was better than I expected. Definitely better than the first G.I. Joe. I'm not sure why they included the homoerotica scenes, but overall the story and action were great.

I liked the first one, i watched it expecting it to be completely terrible, but it didnt suck. It was a dumb action movie, but it was a fun dumb action movie, plus they said "Knowing is half the battle" like three or four times.

Wont be seeing this one in the theater either, but im looking forward to redboxing it.

Yeah, but that's a little overplayed.  This one--in a short period of time--evokes a sense of adventure, familial connection, childlike curiosity, and pathos.  It's masterful.

Dammit, you're right.  "Pork Chop Sandwiches" is to GI Joe what "Danger Zone" is to Archer.  It's the common "hey, I watched it" line that doesn't show that the viewer in question really got into it and saw the subtleties and nuances of what the creators were REALLY trying to say.

I stand corrected.

Tyler Perry's blaxploitation movies promote racism, not decrease it. Movies shouldn't be "black" or "white", but enjoyable.

Django Unchained was loved by all races, despite the racism focal point.

... I couldn't agree more.

I'd see it.  Pitch: they are all toy size.  In fact are just animated MUSCLE toys.  They spent the movie terrorizing then killing Smurfs and Garfield and other movie adaptations from old kids properties.
