Generation_D: Junkyard Wars (2000 or 2001) finding a $20,000 brand new boat propeller in a landfill.

Don't go dissing Junkyard Wars.  Maybe the junkyard was seeded with things they might need.  But it was DAMN cool and they did the building.

When did you figure out Reality TV was not "real" ?

For me: Darva Conger and Rick Rockwell on Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire .. the numerous plot flaws (2000) and Junkyard Wars (2000 or 2001) finding a $20,000 brand new boat propeller in a landfill.

About the only one they don't / can't fake much is Deadliest Catch.

You must be young. MTV's Real World became the Scripted World in season #2. It was quite the scandal at the time.

Quantum Apostrophe: cetacei: I'm a legit 41 year old virgin with severe social phobias.  Does anyone want to interview me?

Sure! OK. When did you realize you were a virgin?

And how long have you been a black quarterback?

The only reality of reality TV is networks don't want to spend money and if they pretend it's a documentary the production values can be shiat.

People need diversion from their crushingly depressive lives. Obesity is an epidemic, debt is skyrocketing, people are working longer hours for fewer dollars which can buy ever-fewer goods. People have forgotten what it feels like to be happy and fulfilled. If they can't gaze into their television and judge somebody else for being uglier, fatter, less moral, stupider than them, well, what else do they have?

Time to wake up.
