Can I get that in a "better than"?

Ahh yes. These "change your profile picture" campaigns always work so well. Like they ended child abuse, stopped Kony and cured cancer.

I think the most interesting bit from all of this is all that red running all the way up and down the mountain west, even outside of major population centers. There's something interesting incubating out this way.

Your life will be easier once you discover that people change their profile pictures to show support, not to change things by that act alone.

And a couple of college towns...interesting that UF shows up so much more than FSU or anything else in the region...And in NC there's UNC, Duke, and...is that ASU?

I do not recall a point in my life where I had an opinion against gay marriage, but when did it get rebranded from gay marriage to marriage equality? It's probably the work of someone in marketing, but it's a brilliant bit of psychoengineering.

What's the point of having the same profile pic as everyone else? I can't tell peeps apart at a glance.

Is it strange for me to say that I first thought that was referring to a math problem, thinking that Subby made a mistake in writing it down, trying to figure it out, but then suddenly realizing Subby was referring to the whole LGBT equality thing?

So you need to change your profile pic to show support? Your friends don't know you are for gay marriage without a trendy slacktivism pic?

And why change your pic to support stopping Kony or curing cancer? Doesn't nearly everyone support those efforts?

About 1998, a group called "Marriage Equality" was founded. The linguistic shift in the media looks to have started circa 2003 or so, about when the Marriage Amendment was getting major play in the US Congress (and possibly as reaction). It's been spreading since.

wildcardjack: What's the point of having the same profile pic as everyone else?

It might tend to have a psychological impact on conformists, which includes a lot of religious folk. High-RWA personalities tend uncomfortable feeling like societal outliers, and may shift attitudes slightly in result.

And Sedona. But I'm sure NAU is most of it.

It mostly just shows up so well because the county is so big and sparsely populated outside Flagstaff.

It's almost as though, regardless of what one particular individual in one particular region feels, quantifiable population trends are proportional to popular opinion.

Oasis?  Try driving I-35 during rush hour.  Worse stillI  was passing through last week and stopped at an HEB Central Market only to find out the city passed a plastic bag ban.

Of course if among all the problems in the world you chose to prioritize things like the ability of two guys who like dick to be able to get married  then I guess yes, it might be an Oasis.

As for me I don't understand the desire to give somebody half your stuff and don't even consider marriage a right but a government regulated, licensed activity-regulated with respect to age, current marital status, blood relationship and yes in some states- gender.  If you want to changed the gender thing fine but there is still no "right to marry."

Better we work for single person equality and make our tax code and laws marital and parenthood status as neutral possible.

Best thing to happen would be to ge the government out of the marriage business so that if two people or twenty people and a goat wanted to call themselves married who would care.

I actually don't see the point...gay marriage is already legal here in CT...so *meh*.  Fix your own states you lazy farkers.

I think that they decided to forgo the empty gesture and change their profile pic instead.

The people who complain that changing Facebook profile pics is an empty gesture with no impact sure are discussing it a lot and spreading its message further.

Seems to really have only taken off this year, as far as Google searches are concerned.

That was more due to lobbying from companies like Google and such than people changing their facebook pictures.

It gets people talking about it, for instance like this conversation.

Your apathy is fine, but are you actually mad that people are, even in a really small way, showing their support of an idea?

Obama = Nazi
Bush = Nazi

The only difference is the political party.. and neither thinks themselves part of a Nazi party.
