Tobin_Lam: Krieghund: SomeoneDumb: hogans: The biggest saturation seems to be around Flagstaff.

Flagstaff.

NAU?

And Sedona. But I'm sure NAU is most of it.

It mostly just shows up so well because the county is so big and sparsely populated outside Flagstaff.

And don't forget, Flagstaff.

/Flagstaff

What a typical NAU student looks like:

Karne: machoprogrammer: Karne: machoprogrammer: Ahh yes. These "change your profile picture" campaigns always work so well. Like they ended child abuse, stopped Kony and cured cancer.

Your life will be easier once you discover that people change their profile pictures to show support, not to change things by that act alone.

So you need to change your profile pic to show support? Your friends don't know you are for gay marriage without a trendy slacktivism pic?

And why change your pic to support stopping Kony or curing cancer? Doesn't nearly everyone support those efforts?

It gets people talking about it, for instance like this conversation.

Your apathy is fine, but are you actually mad that people are, even in a really small way, showing their support of an idea?

Personally, I felt that the red equal sign was a bit of a hollow gesture, so instead I posted a link to this video of Hank Green obliterating all of the popular arguments against gay marriage.

I usually hate these silly "campaigns."  A lot of feeling good about doing something without doing anything at all.  Then, I saw this one...

And freaked out, because corgis are awesome, and changed my profile picture.

/farking corgis, man!

This. Doing that does a hell of a lot more than "showing support"

dennysgod: Facebook gay marriage support
2012 Presidential election.

The southern blue belt is largely black-heavy counties, and seems a light swath on the Facebook map; it plausibly could be from lower support, or lower usage of Facebook. I suspect the latter is the larger factor, since the black/white gap in support seems to have been dropping some, but I could be wrong.

diaphoresis: Obama = Nazi
Bush = Nazi

The only difference is the political party.. and neither thinks themselves part of a Nazi party.

...so vote Republican?

NYC is also pretty white. I blame the Irish.

Maryland's also pretty white.  I blame the black churches.  They've been distressingly anti-equality here.  Ironic if you ask me...

Classic overreaction...

As a jew, I find the comparison valid.

/never forget, never forgive,  never again.
//remember, if a lot of the opponents of marriage equality had their way, we'd be killing gays.

And doing nothing is less than showing support.
