In and of it self, it doesn't. However, it does make for a good bumper sticker or tweet.

You know... it's really not surprising that the GOP has embraced twitter so veraciously. For a party that communicates through soundbites instead of nuanced policy positions, it seems a natural fit.

We know it won't.  They know it won't.  But through a combination of obstructionism and the absolutely remorseless "spendfest for Republican loyalty" that was the Bush administration, they know that a balanced budget and appreciable deficit reduction are an impossible task.  Plus, it's the kind of talking point that makes mouth-breathers feel smart.

Cloudchaser Sakonige the Red Wolf: A language they should learn to speak if they're going to insist on living in this country?

Latino immigrants show exactly the same pattern of English acquisition as every other previous large immigrant group to this country. It is, in fact, slightly accelerated historically. This is despite the fact that large swaths of this country belonged to Mexico until fairly recently. Many Latino families have lived here longer than there even has been a here, here.

There is zero difference in the behavior of immigrants from Latin countries in terms of assimilation than any other previous group in our history as a nation.

Oh but wait, did you mean they should learn one of the many languages spoken by our First Nation peoples?

If so, I apologize.

OK, and the twitter page uses English and Spanish, yet you were outraged...sorry that's my lack of integrity talking...you were "amused" enough to post a non-story with a dumbass tag. So clearly you're "amused" with the lack of pure Spanish despite the bilingual nature of the audience, or something similarly petty. But hey it's your submission....SUBBY!

/I replied when I said I was leaving because I lack integrity and am embarrassed in the presence of my peers with similar made up names and total anonymity. Shame.

-------------------------

We're not "outraged".  We just think it's hilarious that the GOP can manage to fark up such a basic and simple outreach effort.  It's just the 1088349283th reminder that the GOP will NEVER win Hispanic (or any other) minority votes in its current incarnation.  The only people who should be outraged are Republicans who actually want to win another national election anytime soon.

So the purpose of the GOP[spanish] feed is to communicate with people in the US that speak English?

Honestly, why can't the republican apologists just admit that the GOP confused Espanol with Latino and overlooked that Espanol is a language, not an ethnic group?

Um... spanish TV stations that play in the US typically have segments in English as well.  Honestly, in my state the two languages blend together pretty frequently, you see commercials on English stations with Spanish lines, etc as well.

This is not a big deal, both languages work by stealing convenient terms and so on from other languages and there's a tacit understanding that regional media will have elements of both.  I'm kind of questioning what you're getting at with your implication that this is something worthy of outrage, if there weren't some tweets with english text would you be complaining that the HTML uses primarily English phrases?  The "separate but equal" bit you're going with is kinda... creepy.

Translation: "Your mocking laughter surely shows you're outraged and butthurt.  Also, here's a strawman of you.  Look how stupid this strawman looks.  This is how stupid you look."

The poor and ignorant white voter base is a jealous God, however.  They won't allow the GOP to successfully court the Hispanic and/or Black voting blocks.  They'll rebel and abandon the GOP if they sincerely try, and the GOP will never be able to court enough blacks and Hispanics to make up for that lost white base.

A balanced budget means that we're not adding new debt. We still have old debt which means that taxes would need to stay the same in order to pay down the old debt.

So lets be clear, we need a budget surplus not a balanced budget. Part of getting to a budget surplus is cutting where we have waste and where it won't hinder the economy but Republicans refuse to work the revenue side of the equation. The fact that they're fighting tooth and nail to prevent a tax increase on the segment of our population that owns about 70% of all wealth and accrues about 30% of all income should make it clear to even the casual observer what their true agenda is.
