Monkeyhouse Zendo: balloot: That's not what happened at all.  The feed was fully intended to be in Spanish.  But once it started, the base flipped out.  So they stopped tweeting entirely for a little while, and then came back and started doing some of the feed in English.  LOVE the amusement of the GOP trying to win the Hispanic vote when 75% of its members are racist.

Well if that's what happened then I stand corrected. I'd underestimated the GOP leadership and their marketing savvy. Unfortunately I appear to have overestimated the GOP base and the GOP leadership's willingness to stand up to them and actually lead the party.

------------------

The first 50 or so direct tweets from @GOPEspanol were all in Spanish.  That ended in a hurry once the Nativist wing of the party threw a huge hissy fit.

I know, it's one thing to screw up every now and then. But even I'm impressed at the consistency in how often they screw up.

It's like a political party run by Mel Brooks.

Taxes can decrease, which means more disposable income for consumers..rich people, who will proceed to stuff it into offshore bank accounts.

So.. you don't benefit from more disposable income?  Look, I agree that the extremely wealthy have unfair advantages, but there's ways to remove their power without harming regular people in the process.  Fiscal responsibility benefits everyone, and I'm not willing to deny benefits to regular people just to spite the rich.

Come to Miami, where it's far more useful to speak Spanish.  When I lived downtown, all of the local shops (unless it was a huge chain like Macy's), the local restaurants, 100% Spanish. Or visit San Francisco's Chinatown; a friend of mine's grandparents lived there after moving to the US from China in their 20s, never learned a word of English, never needed to.

Do the funny sounding words scare you? If so, it's actually possible to learn what they mean. Crazy, huh!

In the past immigrants learned English and assimilated into the great melting pot that was America.

Someone already covered it but balancing the budget doesn't magically make the debt go away, it just stops new debt from being created.

You'll still have to keep taxes at the same rate to pay off the debt or if you do lower taxes, take much longer to pay off the debt.

Cloudchaser Sakonige the Red Wolf: A language they should learn to speak if they're going to insist on living in this country?

Latino immigrants show exactly the same pattern of English acquisition as every other previous large immigrant group to this country. It is, in fact, slightly accelerated historically. This is despite the fact that large swaths of this country belonged to Mexico until fairly recently. Many Latino families have lived here longer than there even has been a here, here.

There is zero difference in the behavior of immigrants from Latin countries in terms of assimilation than any other previous group in our history as a nation.

Oh but wait, did you mean they should learn one of the many languages spoken by our First Nation peoples?

If so, I apologize.

I knew Pollocks and Italians in Jersey/NY who still didn't speak a lick of English even though they've lived in the US for 50 years.  But it's ok, since they're white.

It's complicated, but I guess it somehow involves involves either "investor confidence" or reducing the job creator's uncertainty. You know, one of those easily quantifiable things.

How about someone worry about the confidence and uncertainty of the middle class?

That's what Fox News is there for. To point the middle class to the REAL threats to their existence.

The central issue is that we're not really having the same converstaion: It's not for these people actually about managing the competing elements of a massively complex economy to achieve increased Pareto efficiency, It's about getting your cock as far up a chicken as possible.

/Chinatown was designed by a white man who had never been to China. Again, I am not saying he did a bad job designing Chinatown or a good job, just repeating a fact you can read about in Wikipedia. But he fooled a lot of naive people, so he succeeded in his ambition.
