You know, the correct response to making a claim and being demonstrated to be wrong is to say "you're right, I was wrong." The fact that you can't even admit it when it's plain as farking day is the surest indication that The Why Not Guy was justified in saying "Not that I expect facts to start mattering to you now..."

submitted links approved can be hidden in preferences, but I don't expect facts will start mattering to a crowd that will do anything to point out people they might not agree with are wrongg.

(hur hur see that typo?)

Many of our AM radio stations in San Diego transmit out of Mexico (so they can boost the power). Because of this, they have to play PSA for Mexicans. They play them in English and are often unintentionally very funny. Maybe the GOP should hire them to "reach out" to Latinos.

Is confusing "amused" with "upset" a GOP thing?  You know, along with the complete inability to reach out to minorities in any meaningful way and the insane contrariness?

They could tweet in "Special English" (like Voice of America radio). In that way they would also reach most of their English speaking audience...
Besides, it is likely they did not want to encourage Spanish as a language used in the US. Must be a nightmare for them to write something in a foreign language!

USP .45: The Why Not Guy: USP .45: subby must be saying people that speak Spanish in the United States don't know English, which is why he/she finds it outrageous any tweets on the channel would be in English.

It would be like if you called your bank and the voice said "press 1 for English" and when you did, the rest of the call was in Japanese.  And nobody here is outraged. We're amused.

hi there subby.

Subby here. And USP, you're making a pretty silly leap.  Just because people learn English as a second language, it doesn't mean they don't like to sometimes use their native language. And if you're trying to appeal to a group, showing you respect their culture and perspective, talking to them in their own language is a pretty obvious start.

When Ford runs an ad on Univision, and it's in Spanish, is that racist?  Of course not. It's Marketing 101.

Monkeyhouse Zendo: Jim_Callahan: Most spanish speakers in the US (i.e. the target audience) are bilingual and also speak english, seems like a reasonable simplification to me.

So the purpose of the GOP[spanish] feed is to communicate with people in the US that speak English?

Honestly, why can't the republican apologists just admit that the GOP confused Espanol with Latino and overlooked that Espanol is a language, not an ethnic group?

Um... spanish TV stations that play in the US typically have segments in English as well.  Honestly, in my state the two languages blend together pretty frequently, you see commercials on English stations with Spanish lines, etc as well.

This is not a big deal, both languages work by stealing convenient terms and so on from other languages and there's a tacit understanding that regional media will have elements of both.  I'm kind of questioning what you're getting at with your implication that this is something worthy of outrage, if there weren't some tweets with english text would you be complaining that the HTML uses primarily English phrases?  The "separate but equal" bit you're going with is kinda... creepy.

But if you're marketing to Latinos, you probably should be posting in Spanish, because language is the key component of culture, and trying to market to Latinos in English after all the 'SPEAK ENGLISH!!111!!' wharrgarble makes you look like, well, you support the wharrgarble.

/Though yes, not all of us speak Spanish

The pomposity of calling it a "claim" that is proven wrong is straight out of Fark.com from 2005. I said "hi there subby" with a condescending Wonka face. The effort that goes into proving someone using a fake name "wrong" is just hilarious douchery to me, and now you say it's for some crusade to keep integrity levels high. That's not what happened at all.  The feed was fully intended to be in Spanish.  But once it started, the base flipped out.  So they stopped tweeting entirely for a little while, and then came back and started doing some of the feed in English.  LOVE the amusement of the GOP trying to win the Hispanic vote when 75% of its members are racist.

We're not "outraged".  We just think it's hilarious that the GOP can manage to fark up such a basic and simple outreach effort.  It's just the 1088349283th reminder that the GOP will NEVER win Hispanic (or any other) minority votes in its current incarnation.  The only people who should be outraged are Republicans who actually want to win another national election anytime soon.
