Good thing my bracket is shot to hell! Also, even as an IU fan, I'm enjoying some sweet, sweet schadenfreude.

/At pre-season, I said Indiana was overhyped for #1 and they would struggle the tournament because the Big 10's refs play home court favorites
//I was told by some real life people that I was drinking the kool-aid and IU was going all the way

I wonder if they're taking a touring bus to the stadium.

One in the front, room for 30+ in the back and all of their cargo.

Nice to see the MVC return to the final four, last time MVC was in it, the team featured an amazing shooter named Lawrence Bird from Indiana State Sycamores.  It is interesting that all the pundits saying 2 or more teams in the big ten will make the final four when it could quite possibly be 0.

Phelyx: It is interesting that all the pundits saying 2 or more teams in the big ten will make the final four when it could quite possibly be 0.

Not really.  Pundits say stupid things to make their readers/listeners feel smart.  Single-elimination is brutal by design, yet four B1G teams made it to the Sweet 16.

That said, props to Wichita State for beating OSU, but other than that the West is a joke.  It's fitting a 9-seed made the Final Four.  Gonzaga barely beat Southern, while the 3-4-5-7-8 seeds all got knocked out of the first round.  Wichita State, Arizona and OSU were all that was left and sure enough those were the only close games.  This year's West bracket reeks of manufactured upsets.

There's no way Lousiville and Duke should've wound up in the same region. That's a waste of a Final Four matchup right there.

As unpredictable as the tournament has been as a whole, it'll be a bit anticlimactic if Louisville wins.

2013-03-31 11:48:29 AM
As a university of Tulsa fan, it's hard to see a one time old school rival from the Mo valley just be awesome and Tulsa not sniff the tourney, but the fighting Danny mannings should be back next year with Memphis no longer in C-USA.

I'm rooting for the shockers, but I know it wasn't that long ago Tulsa was on sweet sixteen runs, with a one shot away from Wisconsin from being in the final four.

Speaking of which, how is Manning as a head coach? I never got a chance to follow up on him when he left.

Only anticlimactic if the games are blowouts. But yes it's kind of a shame all the other 1 seeds flamed out so miserably. Oh and kudos to the Shockers.

He's not entirely wrong, though I think that we mostly have the NBA to thank for the talent dilution.

In addition, the college game is heavily predicated on defense. For the purist, that's not a problem, but, let's face it, in this day and age, sports about money. The purists may grumble, but they'll always be there. You live and die much more by casual viewers. Maybe they ought to think about changing the rules to facilitate higher scoring games. Even in the tournament, we have seen a lot of bricklaying and difficulty breaking sixty points. I'm willing to bet that's not appealing to the casual viewer.

Finally, the regular season doesn't matter for the majority of conferences (i.e., one-bid conferences). The NCAA ought to think about how the schedules could be restructured in such a way that would make the regular season more appealing across the board.

Personally, I'm enjoying the tournament, but I'd be tuning in regardless of who is playing, at least for part of the games, but I'm not really the target audience.

Cowherd is the biggest ninny in broadcasting.  I can't wait to hear how Big Markets would have dictated a OSU win and how "you SAY you want Wichita State in the Final Four, but the numbers don't lie!"  What a flaming bag full of douche.

Congrats to Wichita St.  Now, let's watch Duke and Louisville battle for the national title.

I'm fine with defense.  I'm not fine with refs sitting around with their thumbs up their asses while players get mugged on the court, only to have same refs call a block on a player who was somewhere in the general vicinity of the shooter on a three point play.  Penalties are so ill-defined (on the court at least) and inconsistently called that it's hard to take the game seriously.

There is a Conference USA still.  It's called the Big East.  Unfortunately for UAB, I don't think they'll ever accomplish much in college football while the people controlling their purse strings are Alabama alums.  Hell, look at the sad situation of trying to replace Legion Field.

I've often thought a lot of the smaller conferences would be better served following the Ivy League's example of sending the regular-season conference champion to the NCAA.  I understand that the conference tournament is fun for the kids, but it would seem that their national profile would be elevated by having the best team in the conference play in the NCAA.
