A Shambling Mound: Raymond Ware, who was let go along with 35 other TSA employees in 2011 after an investigation revealed that for several months, some officers failed to hand-screen checked baggage for explosives at Honolulu International Airport.As a manager, Ware was in charge of nine separate areas on two levels of HNL's international terminal, including the lobby where the improper screening happened."I look forward to returning and doing what I love to do, which is to protect the flying public," Ware said.His argument boils down to saying that he never saw anyone not do their job, therefore it is not his fault that a large number of his employees were not doing their job.This guy managed to get his job back via the court system after being fired TWICE and seems to think that his responsibility extends only to what he can see with his own eyes. He'll go far in government service.

He's received $500,000 in "back pay" for the first incident and is up for another $250,000 in "back pay" for this one.A lot of these guys are retired cops on a pension too.

Atomic Spunk: In 2008, federal Judge Helen Gillmor ordered the TSA to rehire Ware, give him a promotion from supervisors to manager and give him back pay and interest of nearly $500,000, Barbee-Wooten said.Holy crap!He sued the TSA in federal court, successfully claiming the TSA discriminated against him because he was black and came from Texas, so he wasn't given promotional opportunities enjoyed by Hawaii residents, especially former members of the Honolulu Police Department.I can't speak for the TSA, but I'm a Hawaii resident and he may have a point. We don't really have a whole lot of black people here. I can't think of any black people who have held an elected office here, and I don't know of any black business leaders or high-profile people, except for Famous Amos (the cookie guy) and Herman Frazer (our disgraced former Univ. of Hawaii athletic director). Oh, and Obama, but he left a long time ago. When the only knowledge people have about black people are through rap videos and TV shows, they may tend to have an unfavorable opinion of them. Not saying it's right, but that's often how it works.BTW, the local term for a black person is "Popolo". Not sure where that came from, but I don't think it's generally a derogatory word, at least not when I've heard it used.
Wodan11: A lot of derp going on here. This guy was fairly high up at a major airport. $89k salary is not out of order.Also, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a witch hunt going on, since ~40 people were let go. That said, maybe a witch hunt was warranted. But bottom line he got his job back, which means the people doing the firing didn't have their ducks in a row. Anybody who has had any dealings wiith Federal HR knows that you pretty much have to take a dump on your boss' desk to get fired OR you're pretty guaranteed of getting your job back if you are (there are so many regulations and HR laws). Which is what happened here. (So basically we don't have much data if this guy was a fark up or not and can't conclude that he was just because he was fired.) This is not specific to the TSA. Though, I'll admit the TSA may be more susceptible because their agency mission is to have a public presence that the government is Doing Something About Terrorism.
Hongcouver: Bear in mind the person responsible for the firing probably makes considerably more money than than this guy. FIRE THEM!
