ideas how the Raiders will screw this up to the right

They'll screw it up by just being the Raiders.

Well, Carson Palmer is being a little biatch, so they had to get someone else.  The only surprising thing about this is that it means the Raiders probably won't waste their #3 pick on the incredibly overrated Geno Smith.

Again? I haven't heard anything about this. Do you know what his problem is this time?

He said he's willing to take a pay cut to play - just not for Oakland.  Basically, he's demanding to play anywhere else, because Oakland asked him to restructure and take a pay cut.

Looking at the Raider's stats, it's a wonder they weren't competitive (except for that scoring TD's part). I don't have the red zone stats in front of me, but the extra points attempts is the only thing that stands out. Maybe Matt Flynn can change that. However, if they don't protect him, even the reincarnation of Montana wouldn't do crap in Oakland.

They screwed it up before it even happened by giving up a 1st rounder and a high 2nd rounder for a QB that they now seem to be replacing less than 2 years later.

Al Davis is dead you know.

None of these QBs are worth a first round pick.

Now now, at least Flynn hasn't gone out and PROVEN for years that he's not a good QB.

No shame in being the backup to the MVP and ROY in the past two years.

Which is a smart move. He doesn't need the money, proved he can be serviceable, and they're Oakland. If he's willing to be a #2, he'd be an incredible acquisition for a top team.

From what I'm seeing it looks like Palmer's going to be traded to Arizona. So they'd be upgrading their QB situation to "meh at the very best" from "smoldering wreckage." Which is actually pretty significant.

With Kolb (same ceiling, just always gets hurt), they WERE 4-1...

Actually, not good news. The NFC West already looks quite competitive compared with just a couple of years ago. Even St Louis could've taken the division last year had a few plays went their way. Anything that makes Arizona more competitive is not a good thing for my team.

2013-03-30 12:42:05 AM
Carson Palmer is terrible. Horrible accuracy and arm strength. He can be an OK number 2 but he shouldn't have started and shouldn't start going forward.

2013-03-30 12:52:12 AM
I liked Flynn, but he never fit in. With Wilson on the awesome we (Seahawks) can use a draft pick to grab a promising back-up. Or trade it for Tavaris again. I actually liked that guy.

2013-03-30 12:52:13 AM
Reggie is cleaning house in Oakland, but this came as a bit of a surprise. I was hoping they'd get someone cheaper like a Matt Moore, to just fill the gap while they rebuild. Reggie was with Flynn in GB so at least he has some history with him.

Don't think he's even capable of being a backup anymore.

And yet JaOfftheMarcus was the icing on the turd cream cake that was Denver's 2009 season.

As for Palmer- fark 'em. Gets his old friend Hue to dupe Mark Davis into paying five times over sticker for him and he can't budge from $13MM to $10MM this year when his checks already have one zero too many? Yeah, have fun being the sixth best QB in the NFC West.

2013-03-30 01:34:06 AM
And the Seahawks give up a player who probably wouldn't take the field this year in exchange for more depth.  The 'hawks and the 49ers could each easily win 10 games, I kind of feel bad for St Louis and Arizona.

2013-03-30 01:52:44 AM
You could do a lot worse, Oakland.  Flynn wanted to be trade to a place he could play, and Carroll gave it to him.  I say he's got a decent chance at actually succeeding.

2013-03-30 02:08:41 AM
What might happen is that the Raiders release Palmer, he accepts a pay cut to be the #2 in Seattle, which would be a good move for all, I think.

And how quickly the 28 year old rookie experiment ended.... don't think Campbell would have signed there unless they promised a shot at the starters job.

To be fair, Weeden was brought on by a different front office under a different owner. The men in charge now have no obligation to Brandon Weeden.

I don't know about that. He came to the Bears last year knowing he was pretty much the backup, got a shot to start a couple of games after the Bears' nO-Line got Cutler killed, and was very meh.

/granted, the Bears' O-line was complete garbage and the OC was incompetent
//but is it really that hard to hand the ball off to Matt Forte and Michael Bush?

If he's at the point in his career where he's going to just concede the starting job to Brandon F*cking Weeden, he should just retire. He's got a legitimate shot to be the Browns' week one starter and everyone in that organization knows it.

I still think Jason Campbell was the better option, despite his injury. Carson Palmer is bad enough, but what they gave up to get his aging, mediocre, prima donna ass was unbelievable. I adopted the Raiders as my Bay Area/AFC team but goddamn do they make me feel better about being a Cowboys fan that has to deal with Jerry Jones.

Banner says that they both have a shot to start but that Weeden will get reps with the first team.  I still think it's his job to lose.

And then the Romo deal happens and it makes Jerry look like the second coming of Al.  Throwing $55MM guaranteed at a QB who is 5 months younger than Palmer.  No way they regret that deal in 2-3 years, no way the dead money from it prevents them from transitioning, no sir.

I believe in Santa Claus more strongly than I believe in Campbell's ability as a qb.

Seems like Seatlle likes Josh Portis quite a bit, as they've kept him around for a few years, even rushing to sign him back to the team when they've had to cut him for roster moves.  I can't tell if he has progressed or not.

I;'m disturbed at the lack of chatter regarding of what the Cardinals need to do to sign CARSON PALMER.  "draft picks, incentive laden contract, blah blah blah".  what?

I've said for years that Carson Palmer has been living off that stupid 2006 Pro Bowl.  He's sucked for years but still gets mileage off that 1-2 season run he had.  SEVEN YEARS AGO.

Perhaps the Raiders are the last team in the league putting any value in the guy. I'll tell you what, I saw the Raiders play once with him last year, the guys arm is like slow-motion poetry. I mean that. Nobody throws a 20 yard rainbow arc like he does.

1) i meant chatter, not lack of chatter.
2) he's owed $13M in base apparently, but smoe of the talk is what the Cards would give up and if he'd restructure.  there's just way too much talk for a guy that at this point in his career, is a JAG.  He is who he is.  Don't bring him here.

christ the guy basically quit football period, 2-3 years ago.  what does tha tsay about his will to win?  i know it was more a protest against the ownership, but still.  if he mentally checked out, how committed is he?

As a dedicated Browns fan, I second this so hard that it hurts only slightly more than being a Browns fan.

The middle name "F*cking" is a title in Cleveland. It is bestowed on every quarterback: from the season-starter to the mid-season backup to the late-season injury replacement.
