Republicans: "Yes, we agree with everything he said, but he shouldn't have said it out loud!"

Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak said in a statement that the Republican Party "remains in support of traditional marriage but that never should be allowed nor confused with any form of hate or discrimination toward anyone."

YOUR DEFINITION OF "TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE" IS DISCRIMINATION YOU DOLTS!

The last time it happened was when Johnson pissed off the Southern Democrats and they became Republicans.

I wonder what they will become now?

It's Yahoo, I think they're usually worse than Youtube comments. This is actually an improvement though, a lot of people either calling Agema out for his so-called "facts" or just saying they (the gov't) should have no place in the bedroom. Of course most have no idea what the first amendment actually means, which is typical.

A year ago and it would've been terrible. Gay bashing left and right. It seems public opinion in Yahoo comments is slowly turning too.

Cue someone saying that EVERYONE who believes in a "sky wizard" is a loon. Cause, you know, Fred Phelps and Fred Rogers TOTALLY deserve to be clumped together. No difference between the two. None and at all.

I don't know if you're a godperson or just white-knighting for them, but it was their job to watch over their own ranks and clean their act up. They didn't do their job, and now it's my job. If they don't like the way I do their job for them, they should go do their job.

We need a constitutional amendment saying that.

I've met lots of people who believe in a wide variety of deities, some of these people have good personalities and some don't, I judge them each separately. However, I'd prefer if the people educating my children didn't believe that deities rule our world and actions, and that trusting in those deities actually accomplishes anything of value.

You know, I don't remember there being much of a call for gay marriage until Scalia brought it up in Lawrence v. Texas. So, I think we should all start referring to Justice Scalia as the Father of Gay Marriage.

I'm really curious about what's driving this nationwide about-face, whether there's more to it than just the old homophobes dying off and being replaced by more tolerant generations.

35 years ago when I was a kid there was a lot of social pressure from other men to be a homophobe. I suspect - but can't prove - that this has been replaced lately with social pressure from women to not be a homophobe, sort of a Lysistrata effect. I think I'll have to wait until the social scientists look into this one. Whatever the real reasons turn out to be, I bet it's going to be a fascinating story.

You really shouldn't care what they believe - if you do, that makes you kind of bigoted. I'd prefer them just not to teach it that way.

Hell, my dad is a religious man with a Chemistry PhD - I never once heard him say anything about seeing god in a covalent bond (maybe ionic) and his thesis is many, many lines of data (I think - I keep falling asleep on page 2), not "godgodgodgodgodgodgod" for 320 pages.

I can't find anything on "Dr. Frank Joseph" on Google, but I'm guessing this is the same dude The Daily Show covered ages ago: a man who had his medical license revoked for fabricating statistics, but is still worshiped by social conservatives.

Apologies if I'm wrong.

The gop is really in a  pickle.

How can they continue their war on women and be bigots if they cannot talk about how much they hate women and minorities?

Guess they're just gonna lay low realllllll quiet and hope they get elected, and then spring out in white robes one their first day in office going "TOO LATE TO STOP ME NOW , SUCKERS! MWA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!".

You may be confusing Dr. Joseph with Mr. Paul Cameron, who was expelled from the American Psychological Association for refusing to cooperate with an ethics investigation.

Many of the claims can also be supported by a comprehensive understanding of phrenology and the effects of the various humours in the body as they impact the four known (and possibly five) elements.

Study it out!

I'm still curious where he got the stats. The article states it was 1980s statistics, but I'm curious what the methodology was.

Likely, ok who in prison here has ever had homosexual sex?  Who in prison here has ever been involved in a murder?

He was a good person first, and a good Christian second.

If the only reason you give and are moral is because of your magical sky-daddy, you might be a good Christian, but you're not a good person.  You can be great in your religion and be repugnantly evil (in fact, some sects require this); and you can be a great person without religion. Religion and morality are not mutually exclusive.

At my great uncle's funeral many years ago, the preacher made a very poignant statement about him. Uncle Erv was a fairly religious guy. Most of the my grandma's brothers and sisters were.

The preacher said the best mark a christian could leave on the world was to live his religion and that Uncle Erv did that. More or less, the idea was to be a good person. Being a good person is more important than flaunting your religion.

Fred Rogers, like Uncle Erv, was a good person (though Erv could put away a few bottles in his time. he was one of my grandpa's drinking buddies).

It is time for us all
 To decide who we are
Do we fight for the right
To a night at the opera now?
 Have you asked of yourselves
What's the price you might pay?
 Is it simply a game
 For rainbow boys to play?
 The color of the world
 Is changing day by day...

Red - the love of two gay men!
Black - the dark of ages past!
Red - a world about to dawn!
Black - the night that ends at last!

 Had you been there tonight
You might know how it feels
To be struck to the bone
In a moment of breathless delight!
 Had you been there tonight
 You might also have known
How the world may be changed
In just one burst of light!
And what was right seems wrong
And what was wrong seems right!

Red... I feel my soul on fire!
Black... My world if he's not there!
 Red... The color of desire!
 Black... The color of despair!

hey, you're no longer a child
I do not doubt you mean it well
But now there is a higher call.
Who cares about your lonely soul?
We strive toward a larger goal
Our little lives don't count at all!

Red - the love of two gay men!
Black - the dark of ages past!
Red - a world about to dawn!
Black - the night that ends at last!
