(Science Codex)   Gentlemen, we have developed the biological transistor. Now, I predict in 100 years, we will have twice as many transistors and be 100 times the size and it will be so expensive only the 5 richest kings of Europe will have them   (sciencecodex.com) divider line 27

you say they're a gag, but they're condensers. I checked one for capacity and voltage on the meter.

New ball game.

How long till it is weaponized by DARPA?

How long until a terrorist can "exploded" a transcriptor logic "bomb" in, say, a crowded train station and program 5,000 people to do... whatever?

On the plus side, is this the magic bullet for disease? Could this allow the rebuilding of telemores? Immortality?

New ball game.

FTFA: "To bring the age of the biological computer to a much speedier reality, Endy and his team have contributed all of BIL gates to the public domain so that others can immediately harness and improve upon the tools. "

So it looks like he's public domain now. Download away, everyone.

the 'bil gates' part is what makes me suspect comp-sci troll.

however a bio-transistor would be pretty swank.

Yes,  if this is not a troll, then this would be great, would make it easier to grow biological circuits to integrate with our nervous system and a prosthetic. we could finally get ourselves some neuromancer/deus ex/ghost in the shell/shadowrun style shiat going on up in here.

It's from the comments section of the article. Intriguing, if a little far-fetched.

a 'transcriptor' would transcribe, yes?  So, the reality of what is being recorded, and then passed off as irrefutable truth, is subject to the programming code, or encoding algorithm, that the 'fathers' of this technology would create.  Tesla discovered in his work that the human brain and nature are tuned in to the same frequencies.  Add this transcriptor business, and you've got zombies, literally.  It'd be 'greyhat' hacking.  Plant a transcriptor with a nano-reciever, and then use alpha waves to connect remotely.  Imagine if society accepts that transcriptors tell the 'truth' about someone's mental state.  If those transcriptors were hacked, than the resulting readouts from the victim's transcriptor would be accepted as truth.  Just as an off the cuff scenario, I could hack your transcriptor, give you 'bipolar/pedo' readouts, and then call in an anonymous tip.  They'd 'scan' you, see the readouts, and you are jailed/executed.  DARPA is well into their research on this if we common folk are talking about it.
