I'm not really concerned about all this, but is has made me raise an eyebrow considering I will be on the Big Island for 2 weeks starting April 24. I'll be sure to blog live during the takeover of our new NK overlords.

We should carpet bomb the country with iPhones and S4s.  Establish strong signals all around the borders, flood the country with wifi.  Then broadcast a bunch of cooking shows.

Danger Avoid Death: FTFA: Earlier, the United States warned the danger from North Korea was rising and that Washington was ready for "any eventuality" after flying two nuclear-capable B-2 stealth bombers over ally South Korea.
The US defied North Korean threats of retribution and took the rare step of announcing that the state-of-the-art jets flew from the US for the exercises.

Pyongyang pilates.

Agreed, though I do wonder if eventually BK will realize they need to sometimes make good on their threats. A threat is of no use if no one believes you'll follow through with it. Surely BK will figure that out.

One sits on vast oil reserves, and has a military that is basically the equivalent of a ten year old that's been handed an AK-47. The other has no real mineral, or other wealth of any kind, and has one of the largest militaries in the world; including Nuclear weapons. Who do you think were going to mess with?

Further proof that if you're born on that peninsula in late April to mid May, it's better to be a South Taurean than a North Taurean.

I don't think it's because we have a weak president
this is just the time honored NK sabre rattlin'
They have demonstrated the ability to fight a war with the sea of japan
nothing more
When I was in Korea, we knew we were a speed bump for the mass of starving humanity
and they could be in pusan before lunch.
But that's it. Worst case scenario.
They'll never be able to send a missile anywhere important
and china would be almighty pissed.

now, if they are the one country that plays all cray-cray
shooting crap into the ocean
so we don't know that they're the only one keeping dread cthulhu from rising..
then shiat really DID get real

Once they're allowed to interact with the outside world, all of that brainwashing will slowly go away. Let's just stop dicking around and do it.

Ha. Think Obama-man will grow a pair and do it? As in....react if 200k soldiers just say fark it on Lil Man's say so?  That is some damn serious loyalty if that happens. I'm not being a warmonger but you know he's getting 100 WTF? calls a day on it. Among the other shiat.

Yeah, remember GWB's daddy and the 100 hours war?  It would be over faster than that, we have troops already in position instead of an ad-hoc force, and we've been planning this for thirty years.  Every single NK CnC position would disappear in the first hour.

Until then it is just dicks being measured.

I was trying to explain this to my son last night.  And I think I came up with some pretty reasonable points...  Is goes like this:

1.  Best Korea's gov't is a dictatorship.  They keep their people completely in the dark about the reality of the world.  They use propaganda to make their people believe they are a world superpower and will crush anyone who opposes them with their incredible weaponry.
2.  They are not a world superpower, they have no such weaponry, or even the technology to develop it.  But as long as their common people believe that they do, the gov't will remain in power.
3.  If the people ever found out that they have been lied to and kept in subjugation and poverty for all this time, they would storm the castle and kill the king.
4.  The UN is NOT the United States.  But for whatever reason, the US seems to be the police force of it.  As such, countries like Iran and Best Korea are all pissed off at the US because the the sanctions levied against them, even though it's really NOT the US making these decisions.  In any case, the sanctions are there because they won't stop waving their great big nuclear weapon dicks in everyone's faces.  In other words, "Stop it with the threats of nuclear war, and the sanctions will be lifted, and your people can live normal lives as you are now allowed to rejoin the world stage."

And point #4 there seems to be the most relevant.  Best Korea could become part of the world stage.  But they are interfering with international laws.  Laws that the rest of the world seems perfectly content with.  Laws that are in place to prevent WWIII from happening any time soon.  They break those laws, the international body elected to keep them in line, imposes sanctions, which causes them to get angry and break the laws even further.

This is a cycle that will continue until the gov't is overthrown.  In the short term, it's a shame that the people in Best Korea are suffering.  But at least we don't have anything to worry about in terms of a war breaking out.

2013-03-29 07:37:52 AM
well - to be honest, they only have to launch a nuke over the sea of Japan (or even straight up for that matter) to create an EMP that would cover S. korea and Japan (and most of the US forces there), to bring those countries back to the 18th century. Its not like the NK's are used to electricity anyway...

Then launch another (if they still have the ability) nuke to set off another EMP once the bombers get there... then you also have to think that China has let their dog off the leash - maybe as a distraction from the Senkaku islands (would Japan/US be able to do anything after the initial EMP?) or even Taiwan... that could THEN be a spill over to distract from Syria/Iran/etc... then you've got the Indians and Pakis at it, dogs and cats... yadda yadda yadda...

Unlike most places we invade, for the North Koreans, I'm not sure things could get much worse.  No electricity, no food, no hope.  Lil Kim pulling the trigger might be the best thing that could ever happen for most of them.

I would love to see that. Whatever happens, having South Korea do almost 100% of the work after the military action is key.

Yea the only thing keeping these people from having a normal life is this dictatorship. Taking him and only his extreme top leaders is the only thing that will save them. They're not evil people, they're not lazy, they just need that chance to join with South Korea and get food and work.

We don't have to worry about Korea becoming some evil super power, they don't want that at all.

Agreed, they could create a whole bunch of troubles rolling south. Shell Seoul and no reason not to use chemical weapons really. But starting a real war is not in anybody's interest. Whereas with the dick measuring contest, assuming no misunderstandings happen, military leaders and government wins on both sides.

kim is obviously a troll.  if he wasn't trolling he deserves the nuclear wasteland of our planet's future

2013-03-29 07:46:31 AM

NobleHam: paulseta: This is a very serious escalation - Obama will find himself in a tricky situation: either take pre-emptive action based on a possibility that NK could have something which could damage US forces; or sit it out and deal with the consequences if it turned out he should have done something. Either way, a large (and different for each scenario) section of the public will have their own thoughts - no doubt.

Personally, I think Kim is hankering for a nukering.

Take pre-emptive action. The longer we wait, the more difficult this war is going to be, and I don't see North Korea going away any time soon without a war. Furthermore, if we strike first we can minimize the damage to Seoul from artillery shelling by targeting North Korea's artillery bunkers before they have a chance to fire.

North Korea's not serious about an attack right now, this is just more posturing, but we're going to have to take real action at some point. For one thing, at this point allowing a country with such a horrible human rights record and history of belligerence off the hook sets an example for other countries: get nukes and the U.S. won't fight you, no matter how much you deserve it. For another, it's just the right thing to do to topple that regime, and the indoctrination and control they have over their people is strong enough that it's not going to topple any other way.

They have a poor han rights record, quick, kill them!

My only worry is that little Un has a bit of a Napoleon complex and really really wants to make a name for himself in world history. I would like to see some fear put into him so he will shut the fark up like having Seal Team 6 wake him up in the middle of the night just to let him know he left the bathroom light on then disappear.
