In my head, I'm imagining a Peter-vs.-The-Giant-Chicken-style cartoon brawl. And it is awesome.

2013-03-29 04:09:33 AM
Heh, that actually made me chuckle.  Also, I forget how old the Shat really is.  Yowza.

The slow-mo swings by the Gorn in the original are the most hilarious thing from a fight scene.

I know! Youconstruct a weapon. Look around you -can you form some sort ofrudimentary lathe?

OK, this is pretty cute. The Shat is amusing.

I had the biggest stupid grin on my face watching that.  Pretty good ad.

This Gorn seems to have aged rather well.

I heard in the JJ Abrams reboot that Kirk uses natural plutonium to construct a nuke instead....

He really looks good for being 82 years old.

For the long shots they should have used a stunt double that looks nothing like Shatner.

It is a terrible shame that we rarely get any Gorn action in Star Trek.  The most recent gorn appearance was in Enterprise (one of like 3 episodes from that series that was any good) and the gorn was in the shadows mostly.

What an awesome ad for what will be an otherwise forgettable game.

Did he do it in a cave? with a box of scraps?

And it was in the Mirror Universe.  I think they did occasionally refer to the Gorn in Deep Space Nine, though.

He was in the shadows because he was a CGI raptor and TV budgeted CGI works best when you can't see it very well.

I haven't even seen the whole series but I think it had more than 3 good episodes. When people rip on Enterprise I think they're looking at TNG and even TOS with rose colored glasses.

Cestus III, the planet/colony in question in Arena, is where Sisko's girlfriend's brother lives (and plays baseball), so it appears the Federation and the Gorn figured out their differences.

The lack of a heavy rubber suit for one of the combatants takes that one down a couple of notches.

The use of different sized extras during the long shots takes it up a bit, though.

I won't argue that TOS and TNG didn't have some really bad episodes but overall those series were simply better than Enterprise.

Also in a clearly different location as well, but that probably went without saying.

The flawless integration of a majestic score puts it over the top.

Really, the best episode of Enterprise was no worse than the worst episode of DS9.

/was going to say Voyager, but doesn't want to be lynched

I thought some of Voyager was good. I liked the characters in general, especially 7 of 9 (not just because of those).

I think somewhere around season 4 they lost their way.

Agreed.

Im all fairness every one of the Trek series (like any other show) had their good and bad episodes, seasons, etc.

Also in all fairness, In a Mirror, Darkly has to rank among the best episodes of all the Trek series. If there was a top 25 (2 parters counting as one) from all the series combined it would have to be included.

Ill also add...the decontamination scene with T'Pol (forget which episode) was...wow...

For those unfortunates who havent seen it (ladies, theres some buff Tucker in there for you) here ya go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRRE9zA1C5Q

Awesome.  Though clearly the saltpeter would make less of a difference for Shatner today.

I think Ensign Kim was doing the driving actually but this only goes to show what many farkers have always known about Asian drivers.

Has the Shat had any plastic surgery done? He looks damn good for 82, I would have thought in his 60s.

I really think they screwed up changing the Gorn into sleek lizardmen. They should have just gone with the original design, but made it look real. What I mean is, instead of making them look like D&D lizardmen, they should be the basically humanoid form with a fat lizard head we saw in their first appearance. No hunched over body, no animal-like legs, etc. Just the same design as in Arena but looking realistic.

This is the same as the Godzilla situation. In the American version, idiots decided to make Gino (American Godzilla, aka Godzilla in name only) into a "realistic" lizard... And it sucked. Later, the Japanese said "fark that noise. Make him look like he always has, but just make him look more genuine. The end result is that the last several versions of Godzilla are awesome-looking, while Gino looks like a lame Jurassic Park reject.

I think the game AND Enterprise effects guys really screwed up when they totally redesigned the Gorn to be a standard lizardman race. The original Gorn looks different. Looks ALIEN. These new ones just look like little versions of Gino.

damn. close the parenthesis after the word "genuine"....

What season was that episode where Janeway and Parris super-evolved into lizard things and had lizard sex and little lizard babies?  Because that was the point where I tapped.

In the running for the role of Kirk at one time in pre-production was Jack Lord, who went on to do Hawaii Five-O. Knowing that, if you watch an old episode of Five-O, you can see that Lord's acting style there is very similar to Shatner's, so close in fact it is creepy.
