rebelyell2006: My vote is for a public castration for the dentist if any of his patients were infected because of his indifference to safety and sanitation.

Especially if the dentist was a teabagger.

I like going to the dentist. Am I weird?

Canton: Ugh, I really should make a dental appointment this summer. I've been avoiding it. Not out of fear, just preoccupation with other things. Been going to the same dentist since childhood, and I will be bummed when he retires. Great guy.

My childhood dentist flew his plane into a mountain.

They said it was likely suicide.

Not uncommon in that profession, from what I've read.

Wow, something I can comment on with damn near first hand knowledge sorta. I do IT work for dental offices for one of the three largest dental supply companies. I am in a dental offices all over Ohio for at least six hours a day, and i gotta say i hardly ever see a doctor take care of the equipment. They always task that to someone else, from the one article it did mention he let others inject patients with whatever, and how much. That does happen but usually under direct supervision, and because that person is going to dental school pretty damn soon, or they are on track to become an EFDA, not just because why the hell not.

The article also mentions the reuse of needles, and using questionable instruments, thats just either because hes a cheap bastard, or suppliers stopped selling to him. If they could not sterilize things thats either due to not knowing how to do it properly or the autoclave, bath or whatever they used was broken and they didnt have a backup. The 7000 patient number is probably just the rounded number from the total in the patient database. I suppose it could be a number they think he saw over the course of a few years when they think the bad habits started, but really the only places that see thousands of patients in a one or two year span are large scale low income clinics.

The odd part I part i don't get is, the article says he saw alot of medicaid patients. Every low income place i goto, the doctor seems to be doing just fine. In fact, one i know of in Akron owns a jag, and a few other cars so hes either up to no good, or medicare/caid pays. So really aside from either different payouts in Ok. for insurance, greed, or just plain stupid, there is no reason for a doctor to get into that kinda trouble. I would wager there is more to this story.

There's 7,000 people in this country who can afford going to the dentist? I guess the economy really has picked up!

Oh geez. That's awful.

I won't pretend to enjoy going to the dentist, but still, I like my dentist. Can't imagine him doing something like that. Don't think he will, either, not so close to retirement age. (Meanwhile, my brother's first orthodontist did commit suicide. So weird. And sad. Sad and weird.)

MrEricSir: There's 7,000 people in this country who can afford going to the dentist? I guess the economy really has picked up!

60 bucks for a cleaning isnt that bad, or hard to do. County to county, city to city in Ohio most dentists have about the same rates on things, unless your that one guy in Euclid that undercuts everyone in the known universe for crowns at 300-400. If you cant afford basic dental care, but yet somehow can post on here and not do it from a library, you might be doing something wrong. Also alot of doctors i know will reduce prices if you make a case. I have seen more than a few write things off because it was the right thing to do.

A Terrible Human: Amos Quito: So I went in - miserable time. Painful even with the local anesthesia. And as for the nitrous oxide? I didn't feel ANY EFFECT. Kept telling him "TURN IT UP, GODDAMMIT!". Still no effect.

Once all over the misery was over, I walked outside - but strangely, I had NO desire to fire up that bowl of weed.

And I never did. I quit, easily and painlessly.

Was it the nitrous? The local anesthesia? The SHEER PAIN?

Well dissociatives are known to cause personality changes.

I should get one of those then.

2013-03-29 12:51:33 AM

Amos Quito: Wow, that could well be the explanation!

Maybe another root canal will cure me of my disdain for politicians?

No sadly there isn't a cure for terrible politicians.

Danger Avoid Death: I should get one of those then.

There's not an absolute on whether you'll have any personality change or even if you'll have a change for the better. See after a large amount of abusing various dissociatives I've noticed I can stay far calmer and hold my tongue better than before but I have the memory of a farking goldfish sometimes.

AliceBToklasLives: Candygram4Mongo: I am not afraid to go to the dentist.

But I am too poor to go to the dentist.

If you are too poor to go to the dentist, you are definitely too poor not to go to the dentist.

$60 cleanings now or $6,000 in dental work down the road.  And trust me, dental work down the road sucks (even setting aside the price).

It's true. I cough up a hundred bucks twice a year because I'm paranoid of having to have a root canal. Haven't had a filling in a decade, so I'm doing pretty well.

I like going to the dentist. Am I weird?

Nope. I don't think so. It's pretty simple really; brush and floss daily you will have easy visits. My big problem is that I am on the "new age redneck's right pocket" dental plan, a cleaning and x-rays are about $250 which is why I may not go every 6 months.....which is also why I floss and brush religiously...

phedex: one of my best friends, a smart guy, makes 50k+ a year, I dont get it but he doesnt go to the dentist. He's 31 and hasnt been since he moved out of the house.  insists that its not necessary. and we work together, so i know that his dental insurance is a whopping 10 bucks a pay period.

I just don't get it.  I mean I freaking hate going to the dentist, but its not horrible.  I had people rooting around in my mouth constantly growing up with braces and oral surgery so maybe i'm a little more tempered to it, but if you are asking for a whole world of hurt in a few years.

is this common, are there other farkers out there that don't go just because?

My older sister has had dental through her husband for eight years- never went. Afraid of needles was her excuse, and I go... If you get your cleanings, you won't see a single needle. Had a conversation with her once about how she refuses to floss because it makes her gums bleed. I'm going, OF COURSE it will if you never do it!

Finally she caved and started going after about 7.5 years of never going. Three root canals, six other fillings, and advanced gingivitis. She had to be put out and it took three appts to get it all done, plus they paid a ton out of pocket to fix her mouth. Now she's more vigilant about it, but her smile is screwed up forever.

I'm not afraid of going to the dentist, and since I have never been to Oklahoma, I continue to not be afraid of going to the dentist.

Also, my dentist is a MILF. So is her dental hygienist.  The latter seems to be a hiring criteria for dental hygienists.

Do like Steven Wright, who also had a hot dental hygienist. Eat a full bag of Oreo's in the waiting room before your cleaning appointment. Lots of quality tiime.

Ok, I had a filling that was "too shallow" to require novocaine that hurt like a biatch, but that didn't make me stop going. I just bought some damn Listerine so it never happens again. Living with farked up teeth sounds like a nightmare. You can't just wrap them up and put them in a sling.

It's not the low yearly payout caps I have a problem with, it's the low payout for caps. Or more specifically, crowns. It does me no good at all for them to cover the root canal and prep work when I still need to find $700 for a porcelain-fused gold crown. You can't do half a root canal--it's all or nothing. (And no, I can't do a base-metal crown--curse my hypersensitive gums!)

CSB time

While Brad Pitt won the Pick 6 in the good looks genetic lottery, I unfortunately won the Pick 6 in the healthy teeth category. Dental insurance through my company is dirt cheap and I go for cleanings and X-Rays twice a year with no deductible. My dentist hates me because she can't make any real money off of me.

True story is she is an awesomely beautiful brunette MILF and while I crave her ample breasts pressing into my head during her examination, she's only in there a minute or so, asks "How's everything going?" and she's gone.

sigh. End CSB
