But truth be told reading the Song of Fire and Ice always made me hungry..

I am super pissed about the beer.  I had my local bottle shop on the phone as their distributor sold the last case for our area.  Dammit.

Also, as far as the food, just cook anything out of this book and it'll probably work:

I was hoping for more out of the Deviled Dragon Eggs than, "do the food coloring thing to the eggs like you're setting up an Easter egg hunt, but then make deviled eggs out of them."

And I'm amused by the "whip up a batch of mead" with three days remaining.

This. HBO and Showtime make me want to get cable. Then I remember that I have to pay $100/month just to watch those two channels. I think I'll stick to torrents until they can break out of cable. Once HBO and the like can be subscribed to directly (like Netflix) for a reasonable price, I will pay for it. Until then, the cable companies can suck it.

Yeah, I especially like the recipe for "Littlefingers." The recipe consists of "buy some bite-sized butterfingers and put them on a farking plate." Thanks for the great recipe!

I *already* cut the cord. I don't have cable, and I won't pay for a bunch of stuff I'm not going to watch. As I said above, when they make it so that I can pay for it directly, I will. Until then, it's torrent time.

And Season 3 will not be available on Amazon anytime soon, so your solution is not a solution at all.

Indeed...it's a superb night for TV geekery. Watch Game of Thrones while Walking Dead DVR's...then watch Walking Dead commercial free.

Per tradition, gonna watch the final episode of Season 2 GoT right before the premiere for a sense of continuity.

I freaking hate the way cable companies have us over a barrel though. I watch a total of four channels on my cable box..Comedy Central, AMC, HBO and Fox Sunday Nights...nothing more. I am very close to cutting cable entirely, but I sure do love my HBO Sunday Nights. My cable provider actually doesn't even offer internet-only service...you have to bundle with something.

Well you can do it. Simply Apple, some yeast and three days will make you something that will get you drunk. However I'd never serve it to a friend I want to keep. But most my friends know what I can produce so if I gave them that rot gut they'd know I hate 'em. Any way I'm more a wine drinker so that's what I make the most off. I'll do beer for the 4th and for a couple of friends birthdays.

img15.imageshack.us

Carboy on the left is Simply Apple the one on the right is pressed Gala apples. In six months you can't tell the quality level between the two. It's a hell of a lot cheaper to just buy the Simply Apple and it saves about 6 hours of work. I'll report back with a year and a two year tasting.

Amazon/netflix is getting better but torrents are still superior.

1. same day as broadcast usually available immediately after a show first airs
2. only the show, no marketing wrappers, previews, production company logos, fbi warnings, etc etc etc
3. choice of resolution and sound quality
4. download once, keep as long as I feel like, no stupid arbitrary time or volume limits on digital content -- does amazon have a shortage of bits that they need mine back?
5. copy to any device I own without downloading it again + runs on linux

and 6. free

Now if amazon/netflix supported features 1-5 I would certainly compromise on 6. $30 or even $60 for high quality stuff like GoT or Breaking Bad for a season of 8-12 episodes is very reasonable. But waiting a year/6 months after broadcast is bollox. And in addition to waiting I would have to not only intentionally avoid spoilers but avoid any messageboard (like this one) that potentially could have spoilers.

But with things the way they are I don't see same day DRM-free downloads coming anytime in the near future.

LOL! We're not super foodies or anything, but if I put candy on a plate, my husband would not be pleased. For last UEFA Champions League game we had on, I put Girl Scout cookies on a plate with brownies, lemon bars and other assorted baked goods. He immediately and relentlessly mocked them and no one touched them. Then, while cleaning up, he threw those out and saved everything else.

Drunk, yes, but I want to keep my stomach lining afterwards.  :-)

We've been using Simply Apple and about half our collective body weight in honey.  (The raw stuff from a local beekeeper, not the processed stuff in a plastic smiling bear.)  I forget what kind of yeast the last batch had.  One small batch used oranges instead of Simply Apple, which wasn't bad.

We're all happy with the mead results, but we want to do more homebrewing of beer, just because honey takes so damn long before it's drinkably delicious.

My wife is the same way. Not the greatest cook in the world but she can bake up a storm! Mostly breads and pastries. One the one weekend that I brewed and she baked.... oh the house ... oh the smell!!!

That and she gave me two beautiful male children. I call her my perfect little medieval wife. Heirs and food.

I've raised his hounds, he's pleased. I think I'm a fairly decent cook, I bake a lot and I'm better at both than both of his parents combined (his dad was a stay-at-home parent, but once put baked beans and canned peaches on a pizza, he's creative in bad ways!) I lucked out too, because on the rare occasion that the mood strikes him, he'll cook up something awesome too. It happens less than annually, but when he does, its "leave the house, don't come back until I call you!" and then... Yogurt marinated lamb chops with honey lavender glaze, lemon mashed potatoes and roasted glazed carrots.

I like the idea of medieval wife stuff. Sometimes, I read those 1950s housewife tips and think, "Oh, man, I am from the wrong era." Except I work and he goes to school, so I never get home before him and I never get the dogs all groomed and fed before he gets home... Its a shame!
