Imagine a GOP candidate addressing college-aged whites.

Among college educated whites - 68 percent support gay marriage. Link

Just don't mention marriage equality.

Further add tuition increases thanks to costly campus diversity bureaucracy and feel good identity courses

Really that is why tution is going up.

That is, black and Hispanic high school classmates admitted to top schools, usually with generous scholarships while better qualified white classmates settle for second tier schools with less financial aid.

Can we mention legacies in admission to top schools and especially professional schools.

forced busing that often means fleeing to a private school

Is this even a thing anymore?

 school discipline by racial quota

Oh like how there once was a school where the principal suspended students for hanging nooses in a tree and the school board reinstated them, my bad that was white kids not what you meant at all is it.

Worst part this is what Republicans actually believe.

Not to be the racist apologist here, but it IS a well known trope / anecdotally supportable circumstance where local colleges are making sure they have plenty of seats available for international students, who typically pay 2x - 3x the amount as residents, while simultaneously locking out straight A students locally because there are not enough places left to go around. Local paper did some stories on it. Whether this amounts to fact is your call, but this IS a trope that's been making the rounds, and would have appeal to the upper-middle suburban white voter whose kids can't get into the big state U any more, while big state U is admitting internationals at historically high rates.

Evidence from battleground states is even more depressing for the GOP. Romney lost Ohio by 2% and received 57% of the white vote (whites comprise 79% of the Ohio electorate). If Romney had captured 59% of the white vote in Ohio (his national average among whites) he would have carried Ohio.

Republican tears nourish the soul.

I sincerely hope that the GOP keeps going with this message. I hope they ride it all the way to their demise.

2013-03-28 11:35:09 AM
What might the future hold if the beleaguered GOP truly embraces the Report for 2016? Not only will the Democrats win the presidency, but the party may fracture, perhaps something akin to the Democrats in 1948 (Strom Thurmond running as both a Democrat and a States Rights Democratic Party) who received 39 Electoral Votes. Or George Wallace who ran in 1968 under the American Independent Party banner winning 10 million votes and carried ten Southern states while almost winning Tennessee and North Carolina as well)

The chances may be a bit overblown, but that's actually a risk for the Republicans.

The Democrats knew they would lose the South when they embraced the Civil Rights Act. Made quite a few Southern whites turn from solid Democratic to solid Republican voters. And they are to this day - the Republicans depend on a large contingency of white identity voters. If they move to embrace Latinos, they run a real risk of leaving some of their rank-and-file behind (I highly doubt the Republicans will make a serious effort to reach out to blacks voters, more likely will re-double their attempts to marginalize them).
Despite what TFA is saying, the demographics trend is not in their favor to stick with the whites-(almost)-only policy. Jonathan Chait wrote about this last year
short story
long one.
Should be interesting to see how it plays out.

Embracing gays could have a somewhat similar splinter effect, though I think you could get a few "I don't care or want to know or think about what you do in your own home" types to tentatively accept a softening of anti-gay policies.

Only thing is, I doubt the Democrats will jump on the opportunity to grab the white identity Southerners* this time around (or ant-gay, anit-etc.). So everyone whining about two-party politics may finally get their third party, a Tea Party / Constitution party. Yay.

To repeat, we are not advising the GOP to embrace white nationalism

Not a good sign when you're having to repeat that. Just FYI.

*yes, yes, we all know that you Southerners are all cool now, and have solved all your race problems and it's the Yankee Northerners who are the "real" or "worst" racists. Many, many white Southerners have assured me of this.

Ok.

Tell me you think they are referring to international students when they say "affirmative action".
Here is the sentence that directly followed the one I quoted.

Romney lost Ohio by 2% of the total vote.  Therefore, getting 2% more from a subset of that total vote, he would have won.  Oh, and Ohio would have given him enough electoral votes to win.  Truly, math republicans use to make themselves feel better.

That would have nothing to do with Affirmative Action. International students are not preferred because of racial quotas, they are preferred because rules about admissions being "financially blind" don't apply to international applicants, so the school can specifically admit people based on their family wealth.
