pag1107: Might have been some footage spliced in from a predator or something. Looks like different sources.

It looks like they cut a few bits for brevity, and the gunner switched to FLIR at @ 1:00, but at no point was that not an Apache gun camera.

Why is it hard to believe that American soldiers would absolutely care about the safety of a child?  They are all sons, fathers, brothers, daughters, sisters and mothers over there.  I have no doubt they did not want to hurt that child and would have not engaged if the child remained.  They had the coordinates.  Just knowing the IED was there meant it was benign.  Killing the insurgents would have been a bonus.  Saving the kid is human.  The IED took care of the insurgents.  The kid got away. Win-Win-Win

Egoy3k: Deep Contact: Must of been a very quiet helicopter.

It was probably a good distance from them. The optics on an Apache (or any attack helicopter) are pretty impressive and it's unlikely that the Taliban has any idea of their capabilities.

Yeah I heard the number '2400' mentioned by the pilot, so they were probably 2400 metres away. Far enough away to not be noticed, close enough for their Hellfires or the 30mm gun.

Yanno... it's one thing to be glad some bad guys had their cunning plan foiled but the sheer joy being expressed here is a little gross. Those are people just trying to deter an invading army like many of us would if put in the same position.

War is disgusting and not something to fap over.

Also, how in depth do you think their understanding on WHY we invaded them is? Misguided as our wars are, we still went over under the assumption that we would "get 'em back good for what they did". These people living in the desert, do they even know WHY invaders are occupying their homeland?

For that matter, once everyone leaves (insurgents, kids and the guy getting water), just pop off a Hellfire or something from the rocket pod, blow it up, and send out a road crew later to do some resurfacing.

Exactly. Not to sound bigoted but these do not seem like extremely educated people and what they do know is coming from manipulative people with an agenda against the west. Seeing their villages get bombed just confirms what they've been told.

Frankly these prolonged wars have only made things more dangerous for us. Something needed to be done but this was all very much the wrong way to go about it.

ONLY it would be those of US that are not pinko gun afraid liberals like you. You liberal gun fearing  peaceniks would be cowering in your tents while brave men and women gathered their guns together and defended YOU. How is that gun control looking now that you know that the current US leaders think nothing of killing citizens on US soil? No need to fear an invasion when the invaders are brought in by the busload, planeload, and given FREE food, shelter and education. Google Somali refugees in the US and see how well they assimilate versus wanting YOU to follow their beliefs. LOOK back on immigration records and see when was the last time the US actually aided foreign migration to the US. You may find it was the Vietnamese and those immigrants actually  Wanted to become Americanized as opposed to the current flock of "immigrants" (read invaders)_.

If true, they buried it too deep in soft soil, creating a mighty plume of dust but likely too little high-velocity rock/shrapnel to kill.  Which isn't to say they aren't deafened, broken, bleeding and traumatized... you can live through that even if it is miserable.

I don't like words that hide the truth. I don't words that conceal reality. I don't like euphemisms, or euphemistic language. And American English is loaded with euphemisms. Cause Americans have a lot of trouble dealing with reality. Americans have trouble facing the truth, so they invent the kind of a soft language to protest themselves from it, and it gets worse with every generation. For some reason, it just keeps getting worse. I'll give you an example of that.

For the same reason the audio / video from CCTV sources is. There is A LOT of it, since they film everything, so compression is a big factor.

Plus they are miles away from the subjects.

If you think making stupid (in this case incredibly stupid) comments on the internet is 'giving aid and comfort to the enemy' then you have a seriously distorted worldview. It's no wonder that people like to you equate socialized medicine with communism.

Two things.

One, about 7 years ago a refugee family from Afghanistan moved into a rental house next door to me. They weren't bad people. I got to know them over a couple of years, but my impression of them was and is. They're used to violence and don't have the same checks and balances in place as people born and raised here. And, I don't trust them. The youngest moved here when he was about 5. He's always been a violent little bugger. I've seen him threatening to brain his slightly older sister with a rock over the littlest thing. Plus, he's destructive as hell. They smashed the hell out of that house. I'm glad I didn't rent it to them (they moved last year). Makes me worry about the future of him and his family in my country.

Two, I'm a bastard in every sense of the word. I watched that video and what came to mind was "why would he say go away kid". Yep, that's horrible, I know it. But, I also think one less insurgent you'd have to fight in the future.

I never said I was a good guy.

Yes, I feel like there has been less of that around. However, I think it's more attributable to the short attention span of the US populace than anything else. It's just that when GWB was in office, war-related stuff got pushed into the limelight a lot more. Why? I don't know.

The anti-war movement was pretty much focused on Iraq - you know - the war Bush started because he had daddy issues. Obama ran on a platform of pulling out of Iraq, finishing the job in Afghanistan, and getting OBL. Well, he's gotten two of those accomplished and the third is all mapped out.

If you have to pay 200K for something then it isn't common. Bleeding edge always costs shiatloads of money. The military has shiatloads of money, so they have lots of bleeding edge tech.

They also have lots of 30+ year old tech that they throw shiatloads of money at to keep running, which isn't commonly available either.

When the Nazis were asked why they sent children to the extermination camps, they said that after what they had done to the children's parents, they would have no choice but to grow up to be the enemies of the Nazi state so they were just eliminating the problem early.

H31N0US: lack of warmth: Yeah, I wasn't nearly concerned about the kid's safety as the Apache crew was.

I have a hunch they were more concerned with public relations than that kid.

This.

If you're smart enough to be able to pilot a farkin' Apache, you're smart enough to know that your comms are being recorded back at base.  Even if it slips your mind (because, well, you're piloting a farkin' helicopter in an unsafe area and that can be more than a little stress-inducing) the REMFs back at base sure won't forget it.  They've got at least a PR weenie there, if they don't have a full-on embedded Geraldo with a camera.

Anyhow, glad to see karma in action.
