WTF is it with Asians and their 'pets'?  Why do you try to keep the rare, endangered, and nasty animals in your homes?  Not even juggalos keep scorpions and cottonmouths.

A tortoise is a turtle but a turtle isn't necessarily a tortoise.

Think of turtle more like order and tortoise like genus.
