We all knew it was coming, but it doesn't hurt any less.

The greatest Flame of all-time. No matter where you go, no matter what happens, Iginla is Calgary.

I'm behind Iggy 100%. It's Bruins all the way.

No one blames you. You deserve the chance. Now go and get it.

I'm sure St. Louis is pretty frustrated in Tampa too, so he might be a bit more inclined to moving to play a round or two of playoffs with Boston.

At this point I'm not sure I have enough faith in Charelli to do anything major.

We need a good defenseman to take up the slack for McQuaid being out, I just hope he doesn't pull a Kaberle.

Not even close.  Theo was awesome and deserves to be in the HHOF, but Iginla is a legend.

This trade pisses me off, not because of the return we got, but because I now have to decide if watching Iggy is worth breaking my Centre Ice boycott of Penguins games.  I may have to watch the games on mute so as to save my ears from Paul Stiegerwald's ear-bleeding commentary.

I know it's tough on Flames fans, but this is WAY overdue. The Flames should blown this thing up three years ago.

Hopefully they can get a rebuild going and make hockey relevant in Cowtown again... the Oilers have a significant head start.

2 prospects and the probably 29th or 30th pick isn't bad... I wonder what the Bruins had on the table? The rumour was is was a bit better deal...
Check your listings before you pony up for Centre Ice, the Pens are the go to team for NBC and TSN has a bunch too.

The Bruins had a similar deal. 1st round pick and two prospects. But the kids the B's offered are at the least solid AHLers. The Penguins gave up some NCAA prospects.

No not really. Boston was offering a conditional 1st rounder in their package while the Pens are not. In theory the flames can sign Iggy in the offseason with out losing the draft pick.

2 first rounders in a deep draft like this year is good.

The Flames preferred the Boston deal, but Iginla had final say.  I've no problem with that.

Tampa will never willingly trade Marty.  They'll ride out the St. Louis - Stamkos connection until Marty decides he's done.  And they'll especially never trade Marty for Malcolm Subban and a 1st round pick....

WhiskeySticks: The Pittsburgh Penguins are the New York Yankees of the NHL.

The 2009 Yankees that won the World Series or the 2013 Yankees that are a disintegrating team full of AARP card holders?

As a Bruins fan, the thing that hurts the most is not losing Iginla, but watching Pittsburgh grab top available forward 1A, top available forward 1B, and top available defensive defenseman, all in a week. While we sit with our hands in our pants and shiat our drawers thinking over a playoff matchup with the Penguins.

Yes, it was ultimately Iginla's choice (hmm, Crosby or Krejci) but don't be afraid to empty the cupboard Chiarelli. Boston has two bluechips (Subban & Hamilton), and everyone else in the organization feels like a 50-50 to even sniff at the NHL one day.  All these Zach Hamills, Jamie Arniels, Max Suaves, Matt Lashoffs or Ryan Spooners over the years... don't be afraid to ship some of these wannabes out once in awhile. I would have traded Khoklachev for Iginla's jockstrap. It IS ok to chance trading prospects that are only 5'10" and 170 lbs. Just a hunch, but you just may not be giving up the next Eric Lindros.

As a fan, I feel like a dog lying under Shero's table, waiting for scraps. I really hope Chiarelli digs around and does SOMETHING to at least keep pace with Pittsburgh. Go off the charts, The guy doesn't have to be named Clowe. Dig around, ball up, and help your team out. Because Lucic is a ghost, Krecji was intimidated after every whistle last night by Montreals euros, and Horton looks lobotomized. Besides the fact Boychuk and McQuaid are missing, Ference has had the single worst performance drop by a B's defenseman in recent memory, and Rask has ZERO big saves in him (and it's no coincidence the team BLOWS multi-goal 3rd period leads with him in net. NEVER a shutdown period or shootout moment. Just throws his hands in the air all the time ala Patrick Roy).

Oh yeah, and there's less than a week left to fix it. Stop playing like your team, Peter Chiarelli, and show some balls and get something done. Playing little miss "oh, I dunno, we should be careful" is starting to get a little insulting to your fanbase. If you actually drafted decent players, I could see concern, but the point of my rant is he drafts shiat 80% of the time, so stop holding on to your fools gold and take a chance on ANYONE who can come into the room and not act like a neutered dog.

There were Flames fans last night talking about ordering their Bruins-Iginla jersies as soon as Aaron Ward "confirmed" the deal.

Imagine if you woke up to this and found you couldn't cancel the sale?

I'm rather torn.

I knew this was coming, but it's still shocking.

However, Iginla is going to the most high-octane offense in the league with Sidney motherf*ckin Crosby.

I mean, I already loved watching the Penguins. They are f*cking fun to watch, but now my captain goes there and gets his shot at Stanley Cup glory?

I must begin preparing my liver for the playoffs.

Oh, it sucks, believe me.  Entertaining game as always, but we started off way too sluggish, and let them push us around a bit too much in our own building.   Still, games between these two are almost never dull.

And I'm wondering how weak Boston's offer was that Calgary opted for Pittsburgh in this.   Definitely a mistake on our part.

Last night was entertaining. Boston fans ecstatic over the steal of a deal being reported, only to have it taken out from under their dancing feet. Not that I have any animosity to Bruins fans in general. It was just funny.

Pretty crappy return for the guy, though. I mean, he's a rental with a NMC so Calgary was never going to get the moon, but it underscores how much the Flames needed to start selling their major assets at least this time last season. Iginla brings in some scraps, Kipper will retire before playing for anyone else now, and what's the most that Bouwmeester will get?

Pittsburgh certainly loaded up for a run. Morrow may not be who he once was, but you can't write him off. And Murray has fallen drastically, but he's still a good piece for a playoff team wanting some toughness on defense. Adding Iginla to that squad is just overkill. Which is why I'm hoping they fail miserably.

Kenneth Agostino, Ben Hanowski, conditional 2013 1st rounder (contingent on Iginla re-signing). I'm not sure what happened last night, but more likely than not it was Iginla who nixed the Boston deal to go to the Pens.

A friend of mine who was a Bruins fan sent me a message last night saying "Iginla is in black and yellow. Aww yeah!". He then went to bed before the Penguins news came out.

I woke up and was able to tell him that he was right about Iginla going to the black and yellow. Just not the black and yellow he was expecting.

That felt good as a Penguins fan.

Pierre McGuire is an even bigger penguins homer.  It's downright creepy.  In his first interview with Iginla, I'll bet he says "Crosby" 18 times in his first sentence before sniffing Iggy to see if he can smell Crosby on him.

Well. Maybe I'll actually try and watch the draft this year.

This sucks. Nothing to be done about it, but it's still a dark day.

Perhaps they should have done it two years ago. I'm glad they didn't. Not everything is about business.

I'm gonna hold off on deciding whether to cheer for the Penguins, though.

It's disappointing to not get a good player like Iginla, but what really disappoints me is that the Bruins had a chance to pick up a black player, the same year they drafted a black player #1 - after all the comments from the stupid idiot asshole comments on Twitter and elsewhere after the Bruins got knocked out by the Capitals last year.

 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/26/bruins-condemn-fans-racist -tw eets-joel-ward-capitals_n_1456708.html

I really hope this had nothing to do with Iginla's choice to waive his no trade for Pittsburgh instead of Boston
