muck4doo: For people with no religious beliefs, they sure do go out of their way to make sure no one is celebrating something they don't like.

How do you know they don't have religious beliefs, and how are they preventing anyone from celebrating whatever they want?

"I was over in Australia during easter, which was intersting. Interesting to note they celebrate Easter the same way we do; commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus by telling our children a giant bunny rabbit, left chocolate eggs in the night.

Now, I wonder why we're farked up as a race, anybody? Anybody got any clues out there?

hmm -- I call myself christian and i aways figured easter had as much to do with bunnies and eggs as christmas has to do with reindeer and santa clause.

It doesnt really. One celebration is of the season and some value like "giving" or "rebirth". The other celebration takes place in reverance of some religious happening.

Like how the 4th of July is a celebration of American freedom and independence but most fat rednecks treat it as an excuse to get hammered, not work, and blow up their hands with explosives bought from illegal immigrants.

Abacus9: If serious:

Lordserb: If the egg and bunny are essentially fertility symbols of a god that the Bible expressly forbids worship of...

If you're a Christian, wouldn't the egg and bunny both be part of God's creation? That distinguishes them from man-made symbols.

Lordserb: and the pentagram or any other satanic symbol...yet no Christian would decorate a basket with pentagrams and ouija boards

First of all, pentagrams aren't a satanic symbol, in fact early Christians used to associate it with the five wounds of Jesus. Pagans and other ancient cultures used it as a protection symbol. Second, you realize ouija (yes-yes) boards aren't some occult key to the spirit world, but a board game marketed by Milton Bradley, right?

Or, 10/10 if you were trolling.

My mother was stereotypically Southern Baptist. We weren't allowed to believe in Santa or the Easter Bunny because they took away from the Christian purpose of the holiday.

When my parent divorced and my dad got custody, my youngest brother and sister were 2 and 3 respectfully. You better believe he let them believe in Santa and go on Easter egg hunts.

I say we rename it Eatster, and make it a foodie holiday.

If you want to keep the eggs and rabbits, make them ingredients.  Time to break out the hasenpfeffer recipes!

Thunderpipes: Liberals are killjoys. news at 11:00.

Thunderpipes thinks the fun part of an egg hunt is saying the word, "Easter," and pandering to Thunderpipes' political identity because Thunderpipes is and always has been a drooling cretin.

LessO2: LordZorch: Puget Sound - home to many of the world's libtard dumbasses.

The holiday has been around in one form or another since the bronze age, the libtards should get over themselves and their PC idiocy.

You know that the mayor of Edmonds is a Republican, right?

Good for him.  The only time I pay attention to Edmonds is on my way to catch a ferry.

LiteWerk: You know, if Political Correctness  means that you aren't allowed to say or do ANYTHING that might offend someone else, we are so screwed up that maybe we need to abandon  the whole concept of Political Correctness.

/suggesting we revert to common sense, it that's not asking too much

What "political correctness" actually means, from context, is "I want to say something rude and not get called on it".

And they take criticism well, too!

So you're saying we can just call it what it is and celebrate the Spring Equinox?

ArkAngel: It just seems so unlikely that there are people so disingenuous that they would bring their children to the egg hunt but not the Easter egg hunt.

That was my thought.

Yes, I did. There's not one word about the council members' religious convictions or lack thereof, and removing the word Easter from the publicly funded childrens entertainment does not in any way prevent anyone from celebrating whatever they want.
You understand that they haven't banned Easter, right?

fanbladesaresharp: Surool: Eggs and bunnies aren't christian symbols. Why christians want to perform pagan rites is beyond me.

It's a distraction for the kids while the parents are out protesting abortion clinics. Or something.

It really shows the odd developement of the last couple of decades... atheists are more educated about christian tradition and christianity in general than the actual christians are. I used to know people who would sh*t their pants if they knew about all of the pagan stuff they engage in.

An Easter Egg is a colorful plastic shell filled with candy.  Or chocolate.
An Egg is an egg.

Why would any normal kid want to hunt an egg?
