Am I the only one who thinks it's kind of cool how lots of the trees in the landslide area are still standing? Like pulling a tablecloth off the table without knocking over the lamp?

Going to have to reassess their property value and charge them for back taxes.

I feel the same about Whidbey and those located in lahar zones as I do about those located in flood planes and the idiots who built on top of the sea wall: fark 'em. You built your house in an area you knew was going to be a problem when nature got pissed, you deserve what you got.

"Not clear what caused the slide..."Normally it is water and clearcutting (to improve the view).  It is why passenger train service is out N of Seattle 10% of the winter -- mudslides in Mukilteo and Edmonds.  But it has been reasonably dry here for several weeks. This is a massive earth movement on the W side of Whidbey Island, N of the town of Greenbank.  I think that most of this land is glacial deposit, which often has rock/sand moving across sheets of clay on the way down the hill.

Oh, I see how it is.  I change a couple words from the original to make it more "accurate" but shavethewhales gets the props.

As someone who's currently bidding for waterfront property in Seattle (on land with a high landslide danger), this pleases me in my negotiations.

/I feel sorry for the folks that this slide hurt though.

Can't be both, the guy on the streetcorner in the crunchy pants who was telling me gay marriage was an abomination also said gravity was just a theory, like evolution...  Last I saw him, he was lying in the gutter and peeing on himself, but I'm sure he made it to the international astrophysicist conference right after that.

So he couldn't possibly be wrong!  We have to come up with some different theories.

Good.  The biggest reason why shoreline should be publicly owned.

BEER_ME_in_CT: Look like theres one homeowner who won the beachfront upgrade from mother nature.

"Beachfront" on Whidbey is a very particular definition. As most of the island is cliffs near the water,
"ocean view" and "ocean front" often mean you are 100' or more above the high tide mark. To be "Beachfront" or "Water front" you have to have less than 10' of elevation (it might even be 4') between you and extreme high tide. Needless to say, beachfront properties go for the highest prices, if you can find one for sale, and often come with occasional saltwater in the crawl space.

With access fees of course, to go into the general fund.

I still recall seeing those houses that slid down the bluff at Perkins Lane.

Visible from the Bainbridge ferry at the time.  A real eye-gawker.

Yeah, if they drive there by car. Understandable.  So show up on a bike. Big deal.
Also,  the only reason we have access fees up here is because righties are too cheap to fund public land because socialism.

My brother's place is on the verge of collapse too. Sad story but inevitable with the slope on his property. The inspector gave it less than 2 years before the place slides into the sound.

There's a reason bluffs are shaped the way they are shaped. You don't want to own property at either the top OR the bottom.

>Lives on top of a hill in Everett - no bluff in sight.
