I am shocked, SHOCKED, to find that a hosting company with ties organized crime has not taken too kindly to what is more or less extortion.

2013-03-27 12:09:13 PM
Mr Linford told the BBC that the attack was being investigated by five different national cyber-police-forces around the world.

The link takes me to a hola.org page, and tries to download software.  Is that supposed to happen?

2013-03-27 12:32:47 PM
And the link isn't working.  Fitting.

I haven't noticed any slowness besides the BBC website though, and it's still faster than the best I could get 10 years ago.

I did notice slowness on Netflix yesterday. No one else, though. I assumed it was just them having a problem.

It's kinda weird though, this is the first time I've had a browser tab pull the kind of blank where you see whatever you were looking at before clicking that tab.

Aaand the Norton plugin just crashed.  we're done here.

Spamhaus, a group based in both London and Geneva, is a non-profit organisation which aims to help email providers filter out spam and other unwanted content.
To do this, the group maintains a number of blocklists - a database of servers known to be being used for malicious purposes.
Recently, Spamhaus blocked servers maintained by Cyberbunker, a Dutch web host which states it will host anything with the exception of child pornography or terrorism-related material.
Sven Olaf Kamphuis, who claims to be a spokesman for Cyberbunker, said, in a message, that Spamhaus was abusing its position, and should not be allowed to decide "what goes and does not go on the internet".

How dare Spamhaus abuse it's position as a provider of lists of servers known to spew crap to help people who voluntarily and explicitly choose to try to avoid getting crapped on by helping them avoid our crap?

Does anyone even get spam anymore?

I'm not saying I'm a "wizrad" with computers but I use a little known program called "g-mail" that filters out 99.99 percent of spam.

Having once handled email abuse for a medium sized hosting company, it comes down to this: does the blacklist provider charge cash for delisting?  Spamhaus was legit in my experience but some of these organizations are charlatan scumbags.  But the worst people in these scenarios were the people whose accounts were hijacked because the password was something easily determined, people who totally lost their shiat when the hosting company changed their email password.  To their surprise, the hosting company does have the right to change the user's password, and no, management is not available for this call.

I haven't noticed. BioShock Infinite is single player. Of course I did watch something on Netflix last night and it took like 45 seconds to hit HD which is longer than usual.

I realize that people in some countries are getting much faster connections than my 25 Mbps for the same price, but I'd rarely use or need it. I have the option of going up to 100 Mbps but it wouldn't be worth the cost. My girlfriend and I can both stream HD content at the same time. When I play multiplayer games I'm usually the first one to spawn in. I don't download a lot of big files and when I do it's not like I need that 1 GB file in less than 5 minutes. Maybe it would be an issue if I had a bunch of roommates or was the parent of teenagers, but for the content out there that I need it's not really necessary.

Memes Ate My Balls:  and no, management is not available for this call.

Always love those "I demand you put the CEO on the line RIGHT NOW!" calls.

Well sir, 1>  I doubt he would take my call, and 2>  I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be working here by the end of the day if he did.  So that's not happening.
