(New York Daily News)   Alex Rodriguez has not said one word to Yankee players about his latest PED imbroglio, filtering all comments through his lawyers. We must therefore conclude he is guilty as charged   (nydailynews.com) divider line 56

Why is dungeon and dragon deities a tag?

the pitcher is approaching the mound.  Roll for initiative.  17. You are challenging the pitcher.
Identify the pitch.  Roll and add your wisdom and dexterity modifiers.
14+1+2. 17 again.   You identify it.  It is a curveball.
I choose to swing.
Roll and add your strength modifier.

Bill Madden doesn't know baseball so to make up for it he writes TMZ style stories about NY baseball players.  He's had a hate-induced hardon ever since A-Rod came to NY.

He's just doing the bidding of the Steinbrenner family.  Whenever Madden wrote a story citing a "high ranking source in the Yankees front office" he was talking about Big Stein.  He's been that family's mouthpiece for years.

Does anyone honestly still give a shiat?

Those "golden days", you know, the days where dark skinned people were routinely terrorized, are over. I realize that's sad for the baseball purists, but they're gone forever.

It's not the case 100% of the time, but, for the most part, purity/integrity and money/power have an inverse relationship.

A-Rod has been careful about his image since the first day he picked up a bat.

He's already on the record with many comments about steroids, HGH, etc.  He knows the Yankees (and almost any other team in the same situation) would love nothing more than to void his contract on some clause or technicality.

Can't say I blame him for keeping his mouth shut, probably the best thing he can do right now.

once a user always a user, I know you baseball junkies really want to have a double standard for A-Roid though. it was funny how the rabid media steroid coverage backed the fark off when Clemens and A-Roid got busted

2013-03-27 02:17:35 PM
MLB is willing to go 'round Good Hope, and 'round the Horn, and 'round the Norway Maelstrom, and 'round Perdition's flames to find something that can use to suspend A-Rod, Braun, and others. The Yankees are willing to do the same to get out from under that contract. If I were A-Rod, I wouldn't say anything either.

2013-03-27 02:23:14 PM
Of course he's guilty.  He's been using for well over a decade.

2013-03-27 02:43:38 PM
He shouldn't say anything on the matter. But if he did you'd be an utter fool to believe him. Fool me once, etc.

2013-03-27 02:55:10 PM
I'm sure he's beyond reproach, considering how many World Series rings he has.

...

Wait, he only has HOW many?

What exactly would he have to gain by talking about it? Even before the latest PED hoopla, he was practically branded persona non grata by the local media and probably management alike given the trade/"how the FARK do we get rid of this contract???" chatter.

The fact he's starting on the DL this season is probably the best thing for him. Keep quiet, hide in a hole somewhere, and maybe some of this will die down a little.

/that said, A-Rod can die in a fire for all I care.

I think it was more of PED story fatigue.  I watch PTI daily, I find they have an honest view of the media, and aren't afraid to criticize even their own employer.  As these two stories were coming through, I had the same feelings as them: "at this point, its really hard to care either way".

browneye: So are the Yankees the Lakers of baseball or are the Lakers the Yankees of basketball?  (i.e. age finally catching up with them).

With the Yankees, its age and injuries.  With the Lakers, its a bit more that the team was built poorly, and they don't work together well (which is 100x more important in basketball).

I love how Keith Olbermann Would go on tirades about players that were using and their teams. but OF COURSE he was silent on A-Rod and the Yankees. Like EVERY Yankees fan he is convinced that his team's shiat doesn't stink and that EVERY Yankee is an angel. That is a big reason why they are the worst sports fans in the world.

It is smart to clam up if you are guilty.  It is doubly smart to clam up if you are innocent.

so to me, his silence means he is smart or he has someone smart advising him...Bill Madden is stupid.  And if he ever got in trouble he would almost certainly talk himself into more trouble.

I thought Olbermann was a Dodgers fan. Regardless,  you should stay out of baseball threads if you really believe what you typed up there.

A lot of irony in that statement.

Olbermann has season tickets to Yankee stadium. He is a proud and unabashed (and therefore totally biased) Yankees fan.

Care to provide a link of Olbermann criticizing A-Rod OR the Yanks? Its a big internet you can look all day.
Yankees Fans look at A-Rod and say "Sure he juiced in the past, but he's been clean as new fallen snow since joining the Yanks." That kind of thinking illustrates the shallow nature of Yankees fans critical thinking faculties. He's been juicing non-stop he just got better methods to pass the tests (just like Lance Armstrong). Only a moron (or a Yankee fan) believes any differently.

I can't speak for EVERY Yankee fan, but I can for myself and to some extent for the ones I know personally and on Fark.

We were appreciative of 2009 and.. well.. that was about it. With the initial trade to acquire him, I think there was more mirth about "sticking it to Boston" than the acquisition of the player.

Yankee fans, moreso than Yankee haters, are the first (and the loudest) to jump all over his post-season shortcomings (and we perhaps deservedly take some guff for doing so.

When the first PED stuff came out, the general tone from us wasn't "well, we know he was clean during the Yankee years" it was "we HOPE he was/is clean during the Yankee years". When subsequent allegations arose, there wasn't/isn't a sweeping under the rug, it's more of a sighing, rolling of our eyes, and waiting for it to go away eventually. We're not trying to deny or ignore it but at the same time we don't want it to dominate what would otherwise be our enjoyment of the team and the game.

I am  NOT suggesting that there has been NO coverage of A-Rods PED past just that since he joined the Yankees his problems have almost ALWAYS been refereed to in the past tense. The New York media and ESPN, which slants its coverage in favor of New York and Boston, in particular have been quite good at maintaining the  fiction that A-Rod WAS a user but now is clean as a whistle

Olbermann's criticism of the Yankees has been amazingly minor over his entire career. The ONLY time his coverage has bitten him in the  butt was when he tweeted a picture of a Yankees employee stealing signs and radioing them to the dugout. Of course that happened AFTER he left ESPN and the Yankees felt it safe to dump him from his Old Timer's game announcing duties in retaliation.  Had he Still been on ESPN Keith would never have tweeted said picture.
