Think you're really righteous? Think you're pure in heart? Well, he knows he's a million times as humble as thou art. He's the pious guy the little Catholics wanna be like, on his knees day and night scorin' points for the afterlife.

Rhypskallion: nekom: So why does the Catholic church still maintain tremendous wealth for no good reason while people around the world are in great need of help?

Feeding the poor is help.   Catholic help is CONVERTING the poor, so that they can spend eternity with their god.    They're not trying to solve the world's problems, they're trying to milk the opportunities to COVERT all the desperate folks they can.

While all religions try to convert people to their view, Catholics don't go around trying to convert people.

Catholics barely spend any time being catholic, you think we have time to try to make others sign up?

So, there's a unoccupied, plush vacant apartment up for grabs then?

Kriggerel: I'm starting to call him Pope Uriah Heep.

Given the name that he selected, I'm fond of 'Frankenpope'.  And I'm sure that we'll get all kinds of milage out of the 'lighten up, Francis' meme.

Still not as catchy as our nickname for the last pope:   The German Shepherd

airplane_mech2: I seem to remember one of the things about the anti-christ is evrybody liking him.  Doing great things and then when everyone is all happy and comfortable....the hammer falls.  Maybe I'm wrong.

I think you've based your theological knowledge on the 1981 film The Omen III, rather than, you know, the bible.

Why tell us?

(reminds me of the quip -  the more he spoke of his honor the faster we counted our spoons ...)

It doesn't surprise me at all that we now have a hipster Pope. It's very trendy.
