Our domestic spying program is way out of control. They have files on most people at this point. If you have ever been to a competing country or have been flagged for any reason they probably are monitoring your e-mails. they even have a huge storage facility for all of the data that they compile somewhere in Virginia.
Tom Burghardt has been writing articles on this for years. Really scary stuff.

The government looking for bad guys does not scare me. Rich powerful people scare me 'cause they have lots of resources and are often batshiat insane. It's when they get into government that things go really, really bad.

If anybody thinks that they have one iota of "privacy", that is, your messages, chats, etc.. go from you to the person you sent it to, and vice versa with no interception or monitoring, you are delusional.

I'm reasonably certain that some of my posts on this site have made me a 'person of interest' to some dogfaced, wannabe fourth reich lap dog somewhere.  I'm sure other users have incurred such heightened interest.  Those Who Are In Charge™ are likely aware of where I'm having Easter dinner, what I've bought, when, what items I've sold, what my bank balance is, etc...  And the flimsy coating of "security" film covering their unconstitutional shenanigans will likely be stretched over every illegal activity they instigate in their endless mission to make everybody in America just as stupid, scared and two faced as they are.

And there ain't much you can do about it other than to quietly turn all your assets into cash and get the hell out of Babylon.  Nothing.  If they really believe that there's a snake under every stone and they are duty bound to flip them all over "for freedom", eventually we're gong to be United Soviets of America and you will either be privy to power, willfully assisting the powerful or on a very long sh*t list.  This happens over and over again.  And it always ends up the same.  We didn't win the cold war.  We traded them shoes and pants that fit and edible food for their play book.

And behind every facade of money fueled marble, there is and shall ever be, some smirking, squinty, agent Smith looking motherf*cker and his pack of toadies who got that position by telling other paranoiacs what they wanted to hear and expanding his power and budget.  Because they like the idea that THEY can do as they please and everybody else better be very worried about thinking they can, too.  They protect nothing, they secure nothing, they serve no good cause.  And they feel great about it.  And you, and I, do NOT matter as anything other than a possible chance to kick in some doors for a little security theater.  So, rock on, you sad little men and women.  You filter my mail, you track my packets, you monitor my chat, and you sniff the ass of every man jack with an ISP until you know how many times they chew their food.  You do that.  And one day, you will wake up in the cesspit you've built with nobody left to oppress, peep in on or push around.  And then you'll turn on each other.  And when your dime store game of cops and everybody-but-me-is-probably-a-robber crawls up it's own ass, the decent human beings will get on with the business of life and, as far as history has taught us, it will be at least another 80 years before you get back to bat.  Only we'll know that we contributed something, and you'll just be another pack of backstabbing clowns begging for bread.  Sleep tight, America.

The presidential office has long ago become a place where the person who has the best chance of diverting the interest of the public away from the actual mechanics of what we call governance, these days, and keeping them divided against themselves, is installed with the usual fanfare and shouting.  Who better to keep people barking bullsh*t at each other than a bona fide, actual factual, uppity kneegrow?  Sh*t, he puts the coke fiend frat boy and the failed B actor to shame, as far as rabble rousing value.  Still think there's two political parties?  Ah ha ha.  Ever get the feeling you've been cheated.  Carlin said it best.  "Choice?  Freedom of choice?  Here's your freedom of choice, America.  Coke or Pepsi, aisle or window, smoking on non smoking, paper or plastic.  The rest is all decided for you."

Sadly, this country is - thanks to our propensity for telling each new generation that everything that came before them is just "old people bullsh*t" and laughably inconsequential - hading for fourth recih style management designed to keep people from thinking that the economic collapse being engineered isn't normal.  The notion that the government is a self-contained entity separate from the governed that can and always has been able to track every move you make, and everything you do and say,  will be "How Things Work". And you thought the TV show "Person of Interest" was fiction. FYI: Google "Trapwire". Now if someone in the government happens to think of hooking up the Quantum computer that is being built by Lockheed to the internet to monitor e-mail and webcams, along with facial recognition and Trapwire (and the will) - hmmm. Privacy? What privacy. But then it is partially the peoples fault. We are constantly giving it away by signing up for affinity cards, saying "yes" to all kinds of probing agreements, without reading them completely, giving out their SSN  whenever asked, but not required, etc.

Every time one of these stories get printed, i wonder who will 'pop' up next for the bait.
Strange stories that are obviously unlawful, but probably true, written in such a way to cause differing segments of the population to start posting, calling others and maybe protest in public.
It's almost like they are wafer thin cuts to the public at large, using directed keywords to cause a response.
'Gun control!', 'Race', 'Health Care' whatever the issue (real, for the most part, issues) but the overt pinpoint inflammatory wording makes for wonderful data mining possibilities.

I have done it in the past, posted my anger at, and distrust of those in power, but, i try not to any more.
I have come to believe that many i have argued, agreed with have been paid to do so.
Because theres no way there are such morons in the numbers there seem to be out there. (using racist terms while discussing crime, advocating violent overthrow of Gov., Assassination..Ect.)
A item gets put out there, but it does not catch the attention of a large swath of the people, but those its meant to grab, take to the intertubes and gnash their teeth and pull their hair in public while making threats. Soon after you read about some guy put away for unlawful things on his computer, or drugs, or worse.. whatever. We all are criminals now, everyone has something to hide or feel shameful about (You cheated on a test back in school? taxes in order? speed? lie? getting a little something on the side? took a pain pill that was not yours?, any of these could be made into a headline and or jail time.
Its all so easy to find out just what you are willing to do, have done, in this way (if the ability is there tech wise.)
It's just so sad we are at this point...

2013-03-27 05:01:08 PM
Unlike other forms of communication, it's pretty trivial for any punk 13-year-old to encrypt his data in such a way that the FBI can't read it.  That's pretty cool, if you value privacy.

"The President in particular is very much a figurehead - he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it. On those criteria Zaphod Beeblebrox is one of the most successful Presidents the Galaxy has ever had - he has already spent two of his ten Presidential years in prison for fraud. Very very few people realize that the President and the Government have virtually no power at all, and of these very few people only six know whence ultimate political power is wielded. Most of the others secretly believe that the ultimate decision-making process is handled by a computer. They couldn't be more wrong."
