It is impossible for me to fathom the depths of emotion that the liberators of those camps must have experienced.

It's almost like a person might ask for a specific group of people they can help in a dire situation with limited resources due to close cultural, religious and language ties so as to maximize their ability to aid through the use of a skills and knowledge largely unique to them.

But, no, I'm sure you're right. It's probably safe to assume he was just being a racist dick.

As someone who has walked through the camps and has also talked to survivors in English and German, fark you, fark you and all the other deniers with a rusty spoon. If a genie was to grant me one wish it would be to eliminate such people from the gene pool, such inability to learn from the horrors of our own history is probably the worst part of humanity.

I was 'fortunate' enough to visit Buchenwald in 1991, not long after the reunification of Germany.  At that time the museum at the camp was still the one that had existed for the East Germans to visit.  It focused on the plight of the anti-fascist insurgents who had been imprisoned there, along with the Communists and the Catholics and the Gypsies.  I could find the word "Jew" or "Jewish" in only one single display in the entire museum, and that was a passing reference to Jewish children who were freed from the camp along with the other classes of children.  As sickening as the camp would have been in its own right, the fact that the East Germans had then whitewashed their history was even more repulsive.

If I recall correctly, a few years later, they found thousands of bodies in mass graves in the forests around the camp.  But the graves dated to the period AFTER the war, and were the bodies of undesirables disposed of by the Soviet / East German regime.

/and for any of you deniers who aren't just trolling for the lulz, fark you too.

Isn't about time we let the holocaust go? All bringing it up does is give Israel a few pass on it's crimes against humanity.

Legitimate question since more Gentiles died in the camps then the Jews. I guess they need better pr people

Nope the numbers are about equal, but remember he's a rabbi, there were christian chaplains there too, so they handled the gentiles. In fact there was a story with Dachau, when the first jewish chaplain arrived and addressed the prisoner that he was an American rabbi and was here for them, the first thing the people wanted was for him to lead a prayer service. Don't underestimate the power of faith

Since the Holocaust, we have enjoyed the murderous stylings of Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot, just to name a few. Far more people dead yet no constant hand wringing and worship of those genocides.

A. There was a relatively small Russian, Chinese and Cambodian diaspora to the U.S. and Western Europe to spread concern about those genocides, and the people who did flee those regimes had less of a English-language literary and journalistic bent. B. No pictures. No death camp liberations, so not the same emotional impact. C. Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot killed people because of their perceived ideology, not in order to exterminate a "race," so not exactly the same. D. Nazi genocide against the Jews was the core of their ideology. Communists didn't write whole books about their need to exterminate "human vermin," so there's less of a "never again allow that philosophy" impetus. There are plenty of Communist regimes who didn't pursue genocide (the whole Warsaw pact, for instance, and post-Stalin USSR and post-Mao China), but no Nazi ones.

Get it now?

Mid_mo_mad_man: By pulling out you are referring to the campaign of terror against the British and thier Arab neighbors?

Do you think that was a one way street?

Mid_mo_mad_man: And again just because a person does not support Zionism does not make you Anti-Jew.

When you comment that the holocaust was good for jews it does.

Mid_mo_mad_man: Ask the ultra orthodox Jews what they think.

Your ignorance is showing again.  The "ultra orthodox" clown that hate Israel are a small minority, but why woudl I expect an antisemetic moron like you to take time to learn about the people you hate.

Not necessarily. For all his virtues, Schacter toed the anti-homosexuality line pretty hard. He's recently on the record against gay marriage as a Jewish religious sacrament.

No it doesn't.  What gives themt he right is that they bought land, moved there, and improved the place.  When the govt (the british pulled out) they voted to start their own state.

Mid_mo_mad_man: If you don't think the holocaust is used as get out of jail free card by them your wearing blinders.

If it was a "get out of jail free" card the state woudl have been given to them.

Mid_mo_mad_man: Btw quit using anti-Semite for anti -Jew. They are not the same thing. Most Semites are not Jews

The meaning of a word can, and is often more complex then their root words.  But why would I expect and antisemetic moron to be able to grasp that.

One could argue that you are a farking moron and and antisemite for saying that wiping out millions of jews was good for the jews in the long run.

That aregument is pretty much sealed up by yoru claim of an "illegal nation.  Israel is a perfrctly "legal" nation.

I'm not sure if this post is just narrow minded or the greatest troll in a holocaust thread evar.

Also, why not use that wish to make the holocaust never happen?
Seems like a waste.

With WWll and holocaust America wouldn't have risen to a superpower. It's best for the world that America is powerful as it is. It's a shame the Zionists used what happened for thier own gain thou.

Its best for the world if the Holocaust happens for my own ends, its a damn shame other people also used it for social engineering.

Dude what.

"What difference does it make?" Lulek, who was 7, said. "I'm older than you, anyway."

"Why do you think you're older?" Rabbi Schacter asked, smiling.

"Because you cry and laugh like a child," Lulek replied. "I haven't laughed in a long time, and I don't even cry anymore. So which one of us is older?"

Well, damn.

Yeah but it *was* the general thinking of two generations ago (and one still very much alive in many parts of the world today): your clan comes first. Never mind countries. Never mind mixing (the sacrilege!). When push comes to shove, you take care of your own. And your priest/whatever determines who 'your own' are.
