The sequel is necessary because the aliens have upgraded to Mountain Lion.

Actually, this has the potential to be awesome. The survivors of humanity reverse-engineered their tech, and now have become a space-fairing species.

Kind of along the lines of "Humanity is no longer on the defensive." from the HALO 4 Trailer.

Then again, this could also turn into a Michael Bay Crapfest.

And while there may be some familiar faces in the sequels - Bill Pullman has already confirmed that he is onboard; Will Smith has not - their storylines will focus on a new generation of human heroes, including the stepson of Will Smith's Independence Day character

Oooh, 3 guesses what person will get to play that character...

the millions of aliens who survived the crash landing of their ships hunt down the humans, after all, all major cities on earth are destroyed so it becomes hand to hand combat and close quarter fighting in the most inhospitable parts of the planet.

The original ended up a pretty silly movie.  So this has potential, but I doubt they'll live up to it.

It opens in 4 months. The promo machine will steadily crank up. In fact, the first trailer for it is said to be attached to the G.I. Joe movie which is premiering this Friday.

So...on the web probably Friday around lunch time..

So the studio makes a movie they don't want to talk about?  Unlikely.

Have you seen the horrible posters? It also doesn't help that X3 was ass. Although I don't mind First Class so much. Although I really do hate the X-men, I'm half looking forward to Days of Future Past, even though I don't trust Bryan Singer to not inject all is personal issues into it. much like his earlier X movies and Superman Returns.

At least he's promised no bondage leather this time around.

Also, studios make movies they don't want to talk about all the time.

Interesting to see what they do with the destroyed big cities (NY, LA) 20 years later.  Have brand new cities been over the ruins, or are Judd Hirsh and Jeff Goldblum playing chess next to giant gaping holes?

I know it's unrealistic but I hope the screen adaptationForge of God and Anvil of Stars gets greenlit before ID5.

/Very similar concepts except one explores complex themes in a sophisticated yet entertaining manner, the other blows stuff up real good.

Nice that they are thinking wormholes in the non-stargate sense (where time relative to you doesn't pass, but relative to the rest of the universe does). Ken McLeod used that type a lot in his Fall Revolution books.

2013-03-27 09:12:13 AM
I just noticed in the article that they have a movie called White House Down coming out later this year. I can't believe the studios are still doing the dueling movies thing, since we've already had Olympus Has Fallen.

I didn't think wormholes worked that way. I thought that only relativistic travel gave you the time dislocation.

"White House Down"?  Didn't we just do this one in "Olympus Has Fallen"?

This is stupid. ID doesn't need a sequel. ID doesn't want a sequel.

The action was boring and the aliens looked like crap.  If I'm going to watch a wannabe Baysplosions flick, it needs to be just as Baysplosiony.

Everytime i watch that movie i still mutter,"shoulda killed the dog..." under my breath.
