So even though I don't know any Spanish, do you think it's better to watch this on ESPN or Univision Deportes/Unimas?

Hell will break lose if the US wins, I think we've been letting them win for years as an act of diplomacy.

Kilns man needs to out Dempsey farther up with Altidore. Dempsey was on fire for Fulham while having periodic success with US and Sours now...the reason was Fulham was smart and played him forward.

Feeling a US win tonight for no particularly good reason than that I love a good rivalry.

I'm trying to forget the fact that before barely beating an awful costa rican team in in a farking blizzard, the United states has looked like complete farking garbage for the last six months.

Also, Demarcus Beasley is still alive?

Also, who the fark is Matt Besler?

I haven't watched soccer since the summer.  It's been American football and basketball since.  Man, I forgot how much soccer players dive.  And this game hasn't been bad.  But it takes getting used to, as an Ameican bred on other sports, who often enjoys this sport.  It comes off as horribly insportsmanlike.

I guess coming back to soccer it's surprising because it comes off as unmotivated, just guys falling down for no reason.  The histrionics don't help.  In basketball you have players selling charges and flopping, but at least the NBA is cracking down and issuing fines.  Where diving is so bred in to soccer, I guess because one mistake or good acting job can change a game so completely.

My son plays for the city. We play one team who dives soo much, trying to draw a foul, we bring pillows to the game.

Seriously, he's illiterate.

This is our B/C team. Seriously a lot of people in the back end are injured

And what the fark is up in goal? Dont we have two or three world class goalies in premiereship? They injured too?

The guy we have back there now plays for Aston Villa. He is used to taking 20-30 shots a game

2013-03-26 10:58:16 PM
Good God WTF was that?

2013-03-26 10:58:37 PM
You know, considering we're playing at Azteca, these Mexican players sure seem to get shot a lot.

Tim Howard had back surgery recently. Brad Guzan is our #2, he plays for Aston Villa in the PL. They suck but he gets a lot of practice stopping shots, as I alluded to earlier. Not sure who our #3 is... still Brad Friedel?

He's played pretty well too, the US defense is just bush league (as seen 3 times already this match).

Mind you, as I say that make that 4 times.

/he'll proabbly blow one now.

2013-03-26 10:59:57 PM

ON a totally different note, felt for sure that was 1-0 Mex right there. Ow. My heart.

And Geoff Cameron sucks the sweat off a dead camel's balls. I appreciate we need strikers but for fark sake we better start developing defenders. I said it at the last WC and through all the qualifiers. They are farking horrible

2013-03-26 11:02:05 PM
I'd say the longer this stays 0-0 favors the US, but they look so lifeless that it really doesn't matter

2013-03-26 11:02:15 PM
The US can only play midfield, screw the defenders, let's just run a 1-8-1; can't do any worse back there.

2013-03-26 11:02:16 PM
WTF how does that not get finished?

Popcorn Johnny: The USA plays Mexico in Columbus, Ohio in September. I guess we're getting even for making us travel to the shiat hole that is Mexico.

If the idea was equal time in unpleasant places, we should have picked Detroit.

Gonzales and Besler are not the problem, which is surprising. Beasley is a disaster so far. As good as he was in the snowstorm, is as bad as he is tonight.

That said, Mexico can't shoot/cross for shiat tonight. That's pretty shocking.

Beasley i think will get subbed around 75min for fresh legs. If not then sub out a mid fielder for more defense if the score is the same. Of course by that time Bradley could have a red card from shoving everyone

I do not agree that this group is "competitive"

I would say this group is "complete shiat"

This team is decent enough not to lose, but good golly there is nothing to suggest this team could advance from even the weakest of groups in the next WC.  I do like Klinsmann, but something needs to change immediately or this is going to be a similar situation where we qualify but go 3 and out in the WC in Brazil.

lunch. If someone gets in the truck for less,he is ostracized.

/18 bucks..Where is your truck?where is your tools?F*ck you..stand here all day.
//I am told also that people bring them food.
///I know..politics tab.

You have the choice to pay what labor is asking for or not pay and go without. Your choice.

I install flooring..My friend was asking for help.I have thousands of dollars in tools.I am happy to make 200 a day when things are slow.even 150.And I am fortunate enough to make more,More times than most.Again I have thousands of dollars in tools.Maybe they have a truck in the parking lot,I don't know.I dont think they brought there resume either. If I am fortunate enough to make $400 that day,my hardworking helper will get $100.If I make more

Showed promise at DC United, never lived up to it, went to Turkish 2nd division, made a little noise there but nothing serious, came back to the MLS and had a decent showing when he first came back, but soon after became a petulant child and locker room cancer. Now he's gone to Bahia in Brazil to try and re-find himself. He can go fark himself for all I care, until he gets his attitude in check, he'll be nothing to the team picture for the USMNT.

What's the USA team doing on that side of the pitch?

2013-03-27 12:05:26 AM
The ricans and panama winning throws the group into kind of a tizzy. If results hold US and Mexico would remain in 3rd and 5th respectively with the US edging honduras on goal difference. Whatever happens tonight the forthcoming Panama/Jamaica games in june are HUGE.

Iffy. He's old-ish and not getting regular club minutes, which is Klinsi's thing apparently. If Omar can keep impressing, and possibly form a partnership with Goodson or Cameron, then Boca's days are numbered at best.

Good for the prospect of qualifying. Bad in the sense that we are a far cry from the team that beat Spain a couple of years ago. We might make the cup, but we're not gonna do crap in it, unless we show some ball control, and scoring touch.

I'm curious. Is it possible to:

A) Temporarily remove any standing structures from the infield of Bristol Motor Speedway
B) Get a temporary regulation-size soccer pitch to fit in there
C) Fill the place for a US/Mexico qualifier by any means necessary so that we might take their stupid Azteca and shove it down their throats by showing them what a gigantic stadium REALLY looks like

2013-03-27 03:03:31 AM
Did anyone score a goal yet?

2013-03-27 03:16:17 AM
...ooh. You CAN use Bristol. In 2005, Bristol (capacity 160K, compare to the 105K of Azteca) found that they could in fact make the infield suitable for football and attempted to arrange a game between Virginia Tech and Tennessee. The Hokies said yes, the Volunteers said no.

So let's do that instead of Columbus. Let's march Mexico into a NASCAR track in SEC territory, fill the place by any means necessary (rock-bottom ticket prices, post-game concert, etc.), and show them what a big, intimidating stadium REALLY looks like.

The problem with this would be that we would have to actually have enough USA fans buy tickets.  Generally what happens in US games in larger stadiums is fans from other countries (Mexico especially) bring a ton of their own supporters and kill any 'home atmosphere' for the US side.  That's why the USMNT does a lot of their WCQ games in smaller MLS stadiums.  They can control what the crowd will be like more.

Our best bet for an Azteca-like experience would probably be CenturyLink.  Seattle the only big soccer community I can think of that doesn't also have a large Hispanic community.

Also, CenturyLink is loud as hell.  By design.  So that helps.

We'll find out soon how that goes, since the USMNT will be there against Panama on June 11th.

The problem is, you'd need to get 160,000 soccer fans to Bristol, Tennessee. Otherwise, you'd just have a huge, 2/3 empty stadium.

We could have played a heck of a lot better last night, but a draw in Mexico is awesome.

I wasn't planning on going to the US-Mex game in Columbus in September, but now I'm tempted.

ADubs86: TheManofPA: germ78: Can one of the soccer heads here answer a question for me? A few years ago, there was all this talk about how awesome a prospect Freddy Adu was, and how he was going to be the face of US Soccer in the future. Whatever happened to him? It's like he no longer exists over here. Did he run to the Euro leagues and become background noise, or is he teh awesome over there but we don't hear about it stateside?

Background noise. He was basically Reggie Bushesque

He also had a stint in a Europa league qualifying Greek team, but I think he only played maybe a dozen or so games there.

Gosling: ...ooh.

Let's march Mexico into a NASCAR track in SEC territory, fill the place by any means necessary (rock-bottom ticket prices, post-game concert, etc.), and show them what a big, intimidating stadium REALLY looks like.

dietbubba: Trocadero: VvonderJesus: true story, our goalie had a full head of hair at the beginning of this match

I don't think you're allowed to wear the US goalie's jersey if you have any hair at all. It's why Hartman never got a call up, and Rimando probably won't.

After Miola's greasy mop, they had to institute new rules.

Okay, that's a lultz!

Yeah, to be honest I'd be a bit concerned, as the Jamaicans were a lot more laid back about it then the Mexicans will be.

Best insult/taunt from the Jamaican game:
AO Supporter 1: Hey Jamaicans!  Go back to your third world country with the perfect weather and sunny beaches and hot bikini wearing chicks and fruity drinks and....*fades off*
AO Support 2: take me with you!

Trocadero: mikaloyd: Chupacabra Sandwich: Right now concacaf is sending panama, costa rica and the US to the world cup. That would be quite the embarrassment for the continent.

Iceland is UEFA. Dunno about Greenland.

Greenland is trying to get provisional UEFA status.  If that fails, they're going to try CONCACAF.

The Madd Mann: The problem is, you'd need to get 160,000 soccer fans to Bristol, Tennessee. Otherwise, you'd just have a huge, 2/3 empty stadium.

Remember how I said 'by any means necessary'. Again, slash the ticket prices however low you have to get them. Or find a musical act to do the halftime show and a postgame concert who you can count on to fill any remaining seats. Package them with NASCAR tickets. Any damn thing you have to do.

ADubs86: Gosling: I'm curious.

Take one of the qualifiers to one of the big college football stadiums and fill it with drunk college kids.
Neyland Stadium in Knoxville holds over 100,000. That'll work.

But a lot of those college football stadiums can't really fit a regulation sized soccer pitch. An American football field is 53 yds wide. International soccer fields must be between 70-80 yds (taken directly from FIFA's site). Some of those stadiums couldn't fit a 65 yd wide field with touchline space.

The largest stadium in the USA that could accommodate a regulation sized field is the Rose Bowl at just under 95,000 people.

When the US was bidding for the World Cup, they were putting together a preliminary list of stadiums that were suitable to host games. They then cut from there until they had their candidate venues. (Contrast to all other countries, which pick out the cities first and then have to build most of them from scratch.) You can see the list here.

70 stadiums were on the list, including every NFL stadium save Candlestick. You had Alabama on the list, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio St., Stanford, UAB, Minnesota, Utah, Arizona St., Cal, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida St., Auburn, South Carolina, Notre Dame, LSU, Michigan St., Nebraska, Penn St., BYU, Texas A&M, Illinois, Clemson, Texas, Missouri, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Rice, Iowa, Yale for God's sake. Bristol wasn't there, but odds are nobody thought to ask. All of those places were deemed suitable for World Cup play. If Bristol can accommodate them, they can accommodate US/Mexico.
