So Facebook is going to look like Reddit now? Gross.

2013-03-26 01:53:34 PM
What dumbass thing will they add next, 'smart' and 'funny' buttons?

2013-03-26 02:06:48 PM
Still no "dislike" button, though.

2013-03-26 02:07:02 PM
When's the dislike button coming?

2013-03-26 02:08:02 PM
Dammit. I should know better than to try a beat a cardinal.

SlothB77: how is reply different than comment?

dnrtfa

The comment reply appears right under the original comment. You don't have to scroll down through fifty comments to see if you've successfully troll-baited anyone.

2013-03-26 02:24:07 PM
did they get rid of that stupid timeline thing yet?

2013-03-26 02:26:07 PM
Will that prevent me from getting 50 farking notifications when my dad invades the comment thread of a picture I'm tagged in to reply to a comment somebody posted?

I'm guessing 'no', but a man can dream...

oooooo, not having to scroll to see if troll-baiting has been successful is a valuable feature to me.

SomeoneDumb: When's the dislike button coming?

Never.

They want Facebook to be a happy place.

Too bad it's the world's largest soapbox and echo chamber generation facility.

How innovative!

Is it time for people to realize that Facebook and Twitter are only for losers yet?

2013-03-26 02:35:33 PM
Since it's from Facebook, rest assured that this feature will work approximately 30% of the time.

2013-03-26 02:39:04 PM
wait, what? I have had that Reply feature for months now

as far as 95%+ of facebook's user base is concerned, facebook invented the freaking INTERNET.

so this is nothing new.

I killed my Facebook account 2 weeks ago. It was time. I just decided I really don't care about people that have no bearing on my life.

Exactly! Thing is though, I have not seen it in my news feeds or my friends, but for one of the local TV stations here it's on there.

/talking about Gov. MacDonald of VA signing into law Voter ID bill or something. Most of the posts are "you need ID to buy beer, cigarettes, get your welfare, but not to VOTE?"

I'd reply, but I'm in Columbia swinging on hooks right now.

Car_Ramrod: So Facebook is going to look like Reddit now? Gross.

I've met a few people who use Reddit, and every time have complained about the hideous nested threads there and offered Fark as a superior alternative. I'm even almost used to Fark 2.0 by now.

bentley57: But when will I be able to reply with FARK pictures?

I can already see the link to reaction face .gifs flooding in via the reply function instead of people just liking someone's comment or making their own further downthread.

I suggest everyone do the same.

Needs moar sparkely gifs.

2013-03-26 04:50:32 PM
I can't be the only one to think that this sounds (how the article describes it) as a way for trolls to be more effective in their craft.

I mean, really.  The most "engaged" comments (meaning most replied to), get bumped to the top.  Trolls are going to be having orgasms all over one another trying to see who can get on top and stay on top.  Kind of sickening, really.

2013-03-26 05:00:31 PM
I hate this. I like to view discussions chronologically. I don't need nested shiat messing that up.

2013-03-26 05:02:29 PM

bentley57: But when will I be able to reply with FARK pictures?

Not quite the same thing, but you can post a comment with a URL, and it will display a brief summary just like when someone posts a link.  If it's a URL to an image, a thumbnail will appear right below your comment.  As far as I can tell, JPEGs work exactly as you might expect, GIFs only display the first frame (although you can still click through to see the full animation), and unlike with Fark you can link to YouTube videos that can be played inline (although in smaller frames).

They're going to make an ultra account options where you can pay $5/month and you get to see allllll of your friend's posts, not just the 'important' ones.  That's right, every babby pic and whine about their hard day.  Every one of them.

What sort of totally farking stupid idea is that? Pretty dumb business model.

I already like the new feature.  I commented on a celebs new haircut and got a few responses AND a "like" from the lady herself.  No more scrolling through 2000 posts to have an  argument discussion.

2013-03-26 05:59:13 PM
Perhaps, in ten years of time, if they're still around, they'll come up with a bloody search function over one's timeline (or one's friend).

Am I the only one who at least once spent too much time looking for a particular event which had taken place months if not years before just to pinpoint a date or find some details left in one comment?

/hey, i'm not the one who tried to compare gun rights to the civil rights issues of the 60s. you make an argument that stupid don't be surprised if someone calls you on it.

Reply creates nested comments. It lets you follow a thought thoughout its entirety. It's a tried and true method. Apparently form 1984.
