He needs to have a lifetime 50% discount to any contract signed because of introducing slap fighting to the NHL....

Recoil Therapy: //why was there a lockout again?

Near as I can tell, because the owners are completely incapable of keeping their GMs on a leash.

Don't feel too bad for Peter North...he's a multi-millionaire and he's been banging hot tail for the last 30 years.

Yup, no hunger in that guy.  He will play hard about 1 period per game.

I disagree. I do think he has to be coddled a bit, however, I also think as long as he is in the right environment he will thrive. The poison that is the Caps room was not a good fit. Having him in a room led by the likes of the Staal bros who will keep him focused will prove a major difference.

In short..yes, he is a bit of a head case...but keep the team room drama to a minimum and he will be a star.

I can only imagine they've seen something that's assured them whatever soiled the milk back in Washington stayed in Washington.

Anyhow, second tier moves by a perpetual second tier club. Sorry, I mean I'm sure he'll form an imposing physical force riding shotgun with Skinner. The real crime is (for now) we'll never have the chance to see those two drop the mitt(ens) and go at it.

No, TSN is just lazy.

"I love this city. I love the fans. In a short time, I have grown very close with my teammates, coaches and staff in Carolina," - Alex Semin relayed to Tripp Tracy, Hurricanes TV analyst.

Nope.  Jiri Tlusty maybe, but he is Czech not Russian.  Closest we have right now.

You both suck. Neither one mentioned anything about his offense coming in spurts.

Anyway, $7M is a little steep, but Carolina has been happy with Semin. And for all the comments about how lazy he is, etc., he's had some of the best production in the league over the last little while. He's a legitimate scoring winger, and one of the best in the league. Someone was going to pay him. Carolina figured it may as well be them, seeing as how things have worked.

Semin's at a point per game pace, which is about all you can ask from a top scorer on your team. Is $7 million high? Yes, especially considering his past ups and downs, but as swanhennesy points out, someone was going to give him a multi-million dollar deal.

And speaking as a Canes fan, we have desperately needed a good wing for Eric Staal for a long time.  I will gladly give up 7 million against the cap so he doesn't have to drag LaRose up and down the ice anymore.

/cue LaRose's promotion to the top line again somehow.

Yeah, but then he will go through a streak of penalty-per-game.  He took tons of stupid stick penalties here.

I miss his wrist shot, and sometimes he would go into this mode where he would stick handle around the entire opposing team for like 10 or 15 seconds.  Really crazy talent.  And then he'd take two offensive zone penalties in the second period of a close game.

Twice.

Erik Cole does not equal Semin if that is what you're implying.

Caps fans are well familiar with his need to whack someone in the face with his stick every other game.  Nothing like a careless minor penalty when you have 4 minutes left in the game and you are 1 goal down.

Which one?  The first one where all the contracts were front loaded and the teams were going broke, or the second one where all the contracts were back loaded and the teams couldn't afford to move any players?

As long as the owners are allowed to decide the contracts they made aren't in their favor and lock the players out, what lesson is there to learn?

We're already built for guys like that with Skinner, anyway.  Semin seems like a natural fit for what seems to be our line template:  Fast middle with a great stick handler on one side and a steady guy on the other side.  What we don't seem to have an answer for is when we get frustrated because the other team starts playing wack-a-mole when they can't keep up with our stick handling.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that Peter North would not trade careers with this guy.
