Hawk couldn't fly, but he could help Buck jump the shark.

Yeah, but he did have a badass ship.

PS:

Kinda sad/mad about what the heirs to the Buck Rogers estate did to TSR Inc. after they bought it up and kicked Gary Gygax out on his butt. Bunch of trust fund brats who had not a shred of the creativity or the business sense that their ancestor did. On top of that, their constant threats of lawsuits against anyone and everyone drained what little was left of it's operating budget.

By the time of it's demise, TSR used to be known as "They Sue Regularly".

Dadoo: Are you serious? Both had elements of cheesy future, but BSG still holds up pretty well. BSG had limited quantities of Boxy and Muffit while there was no avoiding Tweekie.

It just felt like BR had Gil Gerard sort of joking around with its premise, which gave it a smirkier, less creaky feel, while BSG had Lorne Greene chewing scenery and delivering lines with hamfisted gravitas.

Twiki might have been annoying, but BSG took itself way too seriously for a show in which the main bad guy was a robe-wearing robot prop with an elongated gumball machine for a head.

There's a guy around my place that looks like the original Baltar. It's pretty funny to see that face selecting the firmest apples at the grocery store.

Buck Rogers was genuine Science Fiction. Think of this -  how much of the story would need to be changed in order for it to be fit in another genre, say for example the Western genre. Episodes of Buck Rogers would need a lot of reworking to fit into any other genre.Battlestar Galactica, on the other hand, could easily be reworked as westerns, war stories etc. BR used true sci-fi ideas espounded by leading sci-fi authors and luminaries at the time and BSG was a big ol' spaceship being chased by injuns.

Beedle-eedle-eedle. What's up, Buck?

How about no. Standard space-cowboy. Even called buck. Faithful comedy sidekick,

Military man, far from home, unable to return with indian warrior friend and comedy sidekick help defend town from hostiles.

Town contains local spunky female who can shoot, an older kindly man usually related to the young woman, some form of benevolent wise official and lots of stupid cowardly people who can`t fight.

It`s textbook.
