Neither one is advocating a ban on handguns.
When he bought the AR-15 it was only to prove a point that the background checks aren't as bad as the NRA is making them out to be.

Hence why I said "Kelly" and not "her".

But using the intent of your post, I guess you think Kelly should be completely OK with purchasing a handgun, the same weapon that almost took his wife's life, but crusade against AR-15 style rifles which had absolutely nothing do do with her injuries.

We're trying to point out the hypocrasy here but you miss the point apparently as much as other liberal "assault weapon" ban enthusiasts.  Good job.

Cold_Sassy: Also a lot of crop-growing farmers would like a word with you (about deer, you know?)

Here, the deer and elk don't do much damage in the winter, so long as you keep the haystacks fenced off.  Also, this is the critical time for big game as they are much weaker and stress and exhertion will be much more of a concern.  During the growing season, they are much healthier and typically back in the mountains and away from the farm/ranch lands.

Somebody needs to learn to read properly!  I'll map it our for you:
The picture of Giffords holding the rifle was posted to demonstrate hypocrisy on her part.
The logical response was to point out that she underwent a serious trauma (being shot in the head) which changed her opinion, which is to be expected.
You responded:

Office Ninja: It apparently didn't change Kelly's opinion.

I then pointed out that he wasn't shot in the head which is, at this point in time, factually correct is it not?  This then renders your response irrelevant.

Despite your opinion, there was no intent other than to point out that your response was a bit of a non sequitur given that the point you responded to was about how a trauma could affect the sufferer's point of view.

Sorry you're so butthurt about it though.

Not pointless, you are a re-re. What's pointless is false equivilence. You're equating dogs to guns. Lets ignore how amazingly stupid you are for one second. Pit Bulls ARE banned in many places. Have you ever had to search for an apartment and get asked how many/what type of guns you have? Because most places don't allow dogs at all, and pit bulls are almost universally restricted.

Long story short, stop being such a mouth-breathing idiot.

It is legal to ban outright pitbull ownership, and some states already do
It's currently far harder to buy a pitbull than a gun in most cities
Pitbull ownership requires a license, gun ownership does not
and you can sue the manufacturer of a pitbull for injuries caused by their animal, the same is not true for guns

so what was that asinine point you were trying to make?

That sounds like an arms race with police, which we already have. When the police are outgunned by citizens, they acquire bigger and more powerful weapons. The guns are manufactured at a prolific pace so there is an abundance on the private market.

Why do law abiding citizens (or anyone really) need firepower that matches the police?

Because it is our duty as citizens to attempt a military overthrow of the govt should it get too abusive of its citizens. I'm not saying that'll happen, but that has been plainly clear since the founding of our country.

I am 100% fine with background checks, as long as certain conditions are met:

1) it is well thought out, and truly designed to separate the dangerous from the law abiding
2) it has provisions for allowing those with RO and involuntary mental hospital stay holds to petition for re-evaluation to get their rights restored in a timely manner
3) it does not place an undue financial or time burden on the buyer. I'm ok with paying up to $50 per BC for handguns, $25 for rifles. Multiple simultaneous purchaes should fall under the same single BC
4) nothing in the law should be cleverly disguised gun control legislation - ie., nothing like "BC can only be performed on guns that are on a certain special list that the manufacturer must pay $5,000 for each model of the gun to be on" (like in CA)
5) C&R guns should be exempt as long as the buyer holds an 03 License, as the 03 license entails a background check already and must be renewed periodically. (C&R - curio and relic, ranging from 1858 .45 long colt peacemaker revolvers to the 1952 CZ52 handgun)
